Democrats who want to be re-elected are the only hope, fortunately we have a lot of southern and midwest democrats who are not in favor of gun control.

I don't even think they have the votes to pass the house. A lot has changed since 1994, AR15s are some of the best, if not the best single selling firearm. Fewer people knew about or owned these in 1994. A side effect of the ban is that they became more desirable because the government didn't want you to have them, to the point where so many people have and shoot these arms that a ban is politically very difficult right now.

On the other hand, the obama adminstration has the ability to restrict imports of guns and ammo and make life difficult without passing laws.
The fact that they have not yet done so makes me wonder whether they truly want to press the issue. There are a lot more expedient ways to get guns off the street. It makes me think they care more about scoring political points by pressing for a ban they can't get done than about the actual issue of gun control.

I truly with they would bring an assualt weapons ban up for a vote so that those in favor had to go on the record supporting it and could get thrown out of office next election cycle.

I disagree. On the upside, at least one of should be right. We got a 50/50 chance.

I think prices will come down. People are buying because they expect a ban, but I don't think the political will exists in congress for a ban. You need 60 votes in the senate. Assume most republicans are against a new ban. Southern democrats, and midwest democrats are as well. Two domecrat senators were instrumental in getting the DOD destruction of brass reversed and have come out against a new ban.

There are things the adminstration can do without going through congress. These things mainly have to do with importation, so some imported goods may be harder to get, I'll give you that. But in general the rush to stock up will die down.

On the issue of AK drums, they have a very limited purpose, and that is defending a fixed position. It is hard to carry and get on target quick with a 75 rounds AK drum. Even a 50 round magazine is quite a load. I like large capacity ammunition feeding devices (belt feed is great) but I think people do not realize the limited scope of use.

I refuse to pay more that the going rate before this stuff started, so I have switched my buying patterns quite a bit to only buy at a fair price, so I can't get some things, and I can do without those things. But to be honest, on the high end stuff, the prices haven't spiked like they have on the lower end stuff. I tend towards the high end anyway.

In general, I think prices will come back down as manufactures catch up. Don't stock up on magpul PMAGs at $30, if you have none, a few in case TSHTF before this calms down might be warranted. Same more most of this gear, if the supply can be replinished it will be when the manufacturers catch up. I think Glock will continue to turn out magazines and the prices will come down if no ban comes, no need to buy 20 at these prices in my opinion.

I realize the future is hard to predict, and I might be wrong. It is a chance I am willing to take (of course I had enough long before this started). Even if a ban comes, a good 1911 with a 7 or 8 round magazine should not be effected, they never held 17 rounds anyway. There are alternatives, some of them superior to the stuff people are going nutso over. I carry a S&W 442 a lot, and it only holds 5 shots. I have a glock 17 too, I am not against it, but spend wisely.

There are places where you can backorder things at the rate before the craziness set in, and when they get it in, you aren't paying jacked up prices.

Ok I think I said my peace.

    Parts A Little Pricey?

The parts don't have to be Colt Manufactured just Mil Spec.

    One Suggestion:

Bushmaster Firearms International based in Carson City, Nevada, United States, is an American manufacturer and distributor of firearms. The company's product line revolves around semi-automatic pistol and rifle variants of the M4 / AR-15 design. Now made with 100% US materials and parts.

If you want to go the High Quality route suggest a bolt and carrier assembly that is Chrome or Titianum Nitride plated

I have yet to see a hammer fail on an AR-15 type firearm. However beware Murphy's. Beware some of the custom triggers out there. They have a habit of failing at the wrong time.

If you already have a 6920, go ahead an get the BCM SOPMOD Bolt upgrade kit; pull the colt parts out and use for spares (google it and you will find it). You will not be disappointed. Pick up an LMT Bolt Carrier as a spare. Just my thoughts and my opinion.

neverknow... What kind of optics, if any do you have/use? Optics are important along with a solid BIS. Bipods? Practice, practice, practice. Look for a 3-gun match in your area and just go watch; you will pick up a ton of ideas.

So many topics in this thread! The Hi-cap mag prices went through the roof after the last AR ban, 13 rd vs 10 rd is not a big deal in a handgun I dont think. Like CW I dont feel under-armed with a 8 rd 1911 (and a couple extra mags in my pocket) Ive already seen the price of AR mags starting to jump, 30rounders were 10 bucks, seen them in gun stores lately for 30 bucks.
The money thing worries me, if the dollar crashes those $100 bills are gonna be fire tinder. So what do you do? Ive been watching precious metals for years and they keep up with the value of the dollar. Gold and silver are both going up lately as it usually does in time of market instability or times of unrest. I cant afford much gold at $980 an ounce but I do buy silver coins. American Silver Eagles and Austrian Silver Philharmonics. Silver is currently about $14 an ounce, the coins going foe about $17 to $19 each in quantity. When I first started buying silver it was $4 and ounce! I wondered how can an ounce of silver be worth less than a big mac? I wish I had bought alot more in those days!
Gold keeps up with the value of the dollar, when the dollar is strong gold prices go down, when the dollar is weak gold goes up. A friend recently remarked about how expensive gold was, I asked him was the gold worth more or is the dollar worth less? He asked what I meant. I gave him a couple of examples: Back in the 1800's in the old west days there was a gold coin called a double eagle, a $20 gold piece, it is a 1 oz gold coin at the time worth $20. In those days $20 or 1 oz of gold would buy a top-shelf mens suit.
Imagine a fine mens suit for $20!. Well today 1 oz of gold (now worth closed to $1000) will still buy a top shelf, fine mens suit. So again is the gold worth more or is the dollar worth less.
Cash money is no longer backed by gold as it once was (since Nixon took us off the gold standard in 1975) it is only backed by the good name of the United States and the labor of our good citizens. Unfortunately the more the govt prints the less its worth. The buying power of the dollar has dropped 75% since we went off the gold standard in 1975!
So don't keep all of your nest egg in Dollars, buy some gold, if you cant afford gold , buy some silver, a little is better than none. Gold and silver have held value for 4000 years, it will still be valued when the $100 bills are just curious antiques from a bygone era.
    Cam

Don't know how big your hands are, but if they are of average size I would recommend Glock's Model 21SF to a Glock 21. Fits the average hand much better and already comes with the extended slide release (Trust me you want that feature). The Glock Model 21SF comes in two slightly different versions. Basically they feature either the standard Glock light/laser rail or a 1913 style picatinny rail on the frame. If you plan on getting a light/laser combo for it, then stay away from the 1913 style picatinnay rail. You'll have a hard time trying to get the light/laser combo off it once you have put it on. Additionally that particular model of the 21SF may not fit some holsters. Good luck.

Went to a gun show this week end in Kansas City, cost 8 bucks to go in. Wish I had my 8 bucks back. You know how gunshops are complaining about the government taking advantage, well they are just as bad, 9mm ammo at Bass Pro was $16.99, at the gun show for the exactsame ammo, $30.00. A used 38 special, badly used, looked like a tool box peice, was $475.00. BNIB Mini 14, $795.00 M1 grande, deffinetly used and abused, $725.00. How can they sleep at night.
