In reference to brain tanning. Is it a huge coincidence that no matter what type of animal you kill the brain is just big enough to brain tan the hide from the animal? :confused: Maybe instead it is intelligent design? :rolleyes:

Thanks for the link! I lost all my bookmarks and I'm having to start over. I hope to make the time to give tanning a try. From what I learned so far, it's time consuming but the end result would be great if it's done properly.

Ok suppose we have our BOL set up. The SHTF and you made your escape(if you were not living on your BOL already). You arrive at your getaway and like any good prepper/survivalist you don't want to wipe out your stored food. THis requires that you hunt. You get all kinds of stuff from animals. After meat the hide just might be the most important in the long term.

So you kill and then smoke the meat you now have the hides to deal with.

Unless someone had stocked your place with teh chemicals to tan them with they might just let them become dried and still leaving them nearly useless.

Buf fear not I have a link that explains how to BRAIN TAN hides. A disgusting idea yes but you will love it when you use the hides for clothing, blankets, rugs whatever later on.
