Filtering Water With Pipes
Ok- there can be several adaptions of these pipe filters, #1 Take three 2" steel pipes each 3-4' long. The next item is 3 - of the coffee pot filter holders each with the bottom of the holder custom fitted with round screen material that rest level at the top of the holder vanes (this allows a better flow keeping the filter above the bottom) Now the 40 lb. bags of play sand is poured into each pipe and there will be some overflow at the bottom which the filter holder contains. The pipes should be clamped down good along with the filter assembly. Depending on the initial quality of the water dictates the amount of changing out the media. #3 pipe becomes #2, #2becomes #1 and the new one becomes #3. The more packed the sand the more filtering occurs that is why you might need end caps with a drilled hole now that gets us to a more crude but effective system. Take 2" PVC about the same length with a 2" to 1" reducing adapter on the end. Purchase some laboratory rubber stoppers for 1" that have s single hole that a coffee filter can packed into that hole. Use one filter per pipe filling. Repeated filtering of the water gets even better. Some may drip slowly so don't be in a hurry. These two systems are a good start and hey don't forget to buy filters each time you are at the store. This water may still have to be boiled however you will not be going thirsty. More to come---I'm thinking about the next post being rain collection. I hate computers but I enjoy our type conversing subjects and Laser128 I apologize for the delay and to tell you the truth I don't know how to upload an image. I'm just not computer savy.Tags: None
