  • where to run

If you have one place to run when all hell breaks loose, where is it? why there?

I have thought about buying land but the government can just run you off or take you in. Since all the land in the US is either owned buy private land owners or the government where can you run? I guess they can't keep track of everyone everywhere all time. I would like to hear your thoughts.

Interesting question and something I hadn't considered. IN worst case scenario, there's hundreds of acres of farmland that I can set up shop on and no one would know, but...

Bugging out without a plan is not bugging out at all, it's more like suicide. You have to have a plan and a destination. You need several routes to that destination and some alternate destinations as well. This is no easy task and requires knowing someone of like mind and abilities. I have talked to a few folks about this and usually get a raised eyebrow, and they were of like mind. But what you are saying to someone is "I want to bring me and mine to bunk with you and yours" and thats asking a lot. People just don't trust people anymore and you can't blame them. But at any rate, don't just bug out without a plan.

My plan is to set up on government land. If the government crashes, then that land will be up for grabs. I plan to follow in my ancestors footsteps. The Scots-Irish were squatters and took the high ground first. I plan to do the same.

I go North. Into the mountains a special little spot that me and a buddy have practice bugging (telling people you are going camping makes this ok) to for a while. It will take a while to get there if shit is really hitting a fast moving fan... but there are multiple routes and if you don't know the logging roads you'd surely get lost even if I did tell you where it is. If we get seperated then the meet up point is near the original and in a place that is very difficult to get to ... unless you know the way. We're scouting for some caves or somewhere to make a cave... it is really pretty far out there... but water, wild food, thick woods, high ground, a lot of small game, we think it is a good place to make an initial camp... then we'll have to see where the road goes.

You buy them warm clothes, if "North" is your choice and option.

Maybe you best check a map, and your finances and see if there's not suitable land within a few hours drive that you could purchase...

I was born and raised in Northern Wyoming. I never really considred it "harsh" until someone told me it was. It is amazing, but people raise kids in Alaska, Minnesota, Denmark, Southern Chile, Greenland and many other places with seasonal coolness. Kids love that weather. I sure did and I sure miss it.

Being born and raised in Northern Minnesota, I can tell you..people have LOTS of kids up there...nothing else to do when it's -20 degrees outside. :)

And it's only harsh if you're not prepared for it...

There's a good place I know on high ground, good water, good shelter, good amount of land with no one on it...yet.Good game there too,for now anyhow. Its fairly local.I can get there in about an hour and a half, max, from where I'm sitting. It doesn't seem very far out I know but it is VERY remote. The only way to see it is from one side where you can see at least 400 yards.I'm damn sure I could get a shot off with out suspicion of where it was coming from.Probably wouldn't get picked up on any kind of radar from within.

Being in Maine, there are a ton of places that I would be able to go all within a few hours drive or a few days hike. But why go if there is no need? I think a lot of people are too quick to get up and move out when all hell breaks loose. For me, the only reasons for leaving would be if it were safer to travel in the thick of it all and surviving in the wilderness than my own home
If all hell breaks loose and you decide to travel, you are putting you and your loved ones in harms way. If adequately prepared, you should have enough supplies in and around your home for at least a few days, enough time to feel out whatever situation is going down. It is also a lot easier to defend a home with locked doors and dead bolts than a shelter. I feel that leaving your home should be a last resort, but something that we should all be prepared for anyway.

I agree and stated such in another thread a couple of weeks ago. I don't plan to leave for any reason except I am down wind from a nuclear power station. I will consider stepping out of the way of that cloud. Not much else will get me to leave all my weapons, food, fuel, water, knowledge of the area, wildlife, etc.

I'll stay right here thank you. I only have a little over 2.75 acres, but the house sits on a small hump towards the rear (highest level) of the property, and the way the land lays there's high ground on both L-R property lines that funnel down to the main (rural) road. The mountain continues upward behind me, with a developement back there, so I consider that my weak side. Currently doing things that will help slow down any advancement from the rear.
No natural running water though, so I need a well.

I've talked to my wife and ONE close friend about where we would go if the big city became too inhospitable. First choice is to stay, simply because transporting all the good stuff we already have and can use would be impossible. Plus we are intimately familiar with our current surroundings.
But if we had to go, I have a particular place in the woods of East Texas (about 1 1/2 hours from here) where there are abundant trees, water, small game, etc. Not where I'd want to spend the rest of my life, but it'll do if the city becomes a 24/7 war zone.
BTW, the idea of "who do you tell" is important. Obviously, if you have a great place (or just a passable place), you don't want a bunch of party crashers joining you who bring nothing but appetites. On the other hand, one or two TRUSTED friends or relatives can come in handy. Some jobs will be a lot easier with a few extra hands. Guard duty is easier if there are a few more people to split it up. Just make sure the people you invite can keep their mouths shut, and are as prepared as you with their own supplies.

I am thinking the Dominican Republic would be the place to go. You can bring $7.00 with you and live like a king. Good fishing too. (See my pics) Now I just gotta get me a boat to get there.

Seriously, I am sitting tight. If someone is coming in and takes my land, my house, and all that I worked my whole life for, then screw it. They can have me too, but it is gonna be ugly!
