  • How many here have a night vision device as part of your preps?

If you have never used one...they are extremely cool....and believe it or not....very handy.

For night time observation....they allow for the most stealthy form of over watch of an area.

I think the phrase goes..."Don't fear the night....Fear what hunts at night".

I find them incredibly valuable.....and if you thought there were a lot of stars up there before.....WOW....not to mention the meteor showers.

    anyone else?

I've used a couple different types, but don't own any yet.

Night Vision should be the next thing you purchase after a good rifle. Maybe even before you purchase a good rifle.

I have an old Russian starlight scope. It's about 20 years old and not even close to what's out now and it's on the heavy side but sturdy and reliable.

I got a ARMS SIR System on my AR....the AN-PEQ/4C dropps on quickly....the NVD I keep on a Pro-Tec custom helmet rig....it has IR blinkers and enough room for my COMMs gear.

For my distance rifle....Rem .308...I have a Leupold Mk4 8.5 to 25....with a TNVC PVS-14 adapter.....so the monocular sits behind the scope....just have to not let it kiss you in the eye when you shoot it....the releif changes dramatically.

yes they are ;) but your dual pvs-14's and pvs-5 could net you close to thermal if you really wanted it. In my eyes it trumps all

yeah...but outfit one....or outfit three???....the group has one FLIR hand held....older model...you might get 150yrds...We have quite a few NVDs in the group.

I'm quite anxious to see where the solid state NVDs will go....Super Vision has a monocular for sale for civi use.....but as of last I read....not weapons mount froendly.....but WAY cheaper....and zoom capability.

Not really sold on digital nvg, I don't think it exceeds gen 1 really.. the only thing they seem to be able to tout is zoom, which there is solutions for

                            Have you tried digital?

I got to look at the Mil grade at one of the gunshows....the resolution was great....only thing I question would be the black and white display.

He said they were trying to run a red display.....but couldn't get the contrast to do what they wanted.

Supposenly....There is a company in Japan that has come up with a digital NVD that displays in color...but I have yet to see any images from it.
