My wife is not really up on the whole SHTF thing. She thinks I am extreme. With that said, I did convince her to go with me today to look at a "weekend cabin" about 90 minutes from here which is totally off grid.

2 Things helped us get through it:
1. my folks lived accross the street and were stocked up on everything
2. i work for an agency that was a big part of the response, so I had access to water and food supplies from work
My wife saw how well we did through the storm and how bad off everyone else was and she got on board to prepping quick."Oh, America. I wish I could tell you that this was still America, but I've come to realize that you can't have a country without people. And there are no people here. No, my friends. This is now the United States of Zombieland"

Neither one of have prepped to much we are only prepared for about 10-12 days at this point, this is the reason I got involved in these forums. Both of us believe in being prepared…and would like to learn more about it."One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." Plato

I was so embarrassed today. I got caught peeing in the pool. When the lifeguard yelled at me I jumped and damn near fell in.

My husband is on board as far as stocking food and water, but very slow turn around on everything else. so I just stock when he's not around on things like batteries and other stuff (non food items that we need. He knows things are going to get bad and he did strart doing a garden in the back yard 2 years ago. before that my flower beds became his garden and to a point still is, but the bigger garden is in the middle of our back yard. he's not buying on getting a privacy fence and living on a cornor with no privacy we really need that fence. i am still working on him for it. but I really think that roof is going to be the next big job. noticed from the high winds we had the other day that we lost a couple of shingles. We just had a new cap put on after the last hurricane we had. it took most of the cap off the roof. There are a lot of other things we need to do that are bigger items and he still is not on board with, but he's 74 years old with health problems and I don' want to push it. I was surprised though when my daughter and granddaughter decided to take the classes for the conceled wepons permit he was all for that and even had me buy a gun. he has guns and rilfles and has worked with our 10 year old grandson shooting targets and that boy never misses the target now. He has really gotten good at it. Only thing is, the middle grandchild who never shoots much, showed him up and was shooting the rilfle better than him with one hand on the gun and the other hand behind her back. That was funny. He did let me buy that big berkey water filter which at the price they are, that did shock me, so hope he will come around soon for the rest. My daughter and son-in-law are both in with me and have been prepping for quite awhile now as my son-in-law's best friend who is on the sheriff's department is also in with us. I thought we had more neighbors in on this but I am starting to back off a couple or so and no longer saying anything about it. I do know that one of them is stocking food but that is all he is doing and starting to act a little weard and it is starting to make me wonder about him but we will see. I am just watching for now.

The wife is 100% there though I always wonder if she really believes it will get that bad. As far as the rest of the family....most are oblivious though I've only tried with a few. Sometimes you just can't convince people of something they are not prepared to accept. I've had better luck with a few people at work though I don't think any of them have tried to prep or learn survival. The emotional support for me has mainly been from Facebook...at least until now. It's great having chats with groups who see the big picture though it really only amounts to keep my head in the game so I can push forward with plans for prep/survival.

My wife does not believe anything will happen but she does help with storing food items. She knows that I would like to be self-reliant and she will support my efforts with that as well. My youngest daughter believes that something could happen, but she is to busy being 17 to do anything. I don't discuss it with extended family, I don't really want to end up being responsible for them.Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it. *George Bernard Shaw

My wife is 100% on board. She is thoroughly convinced Obama will turn us (US) into communist Russia, if the Mayan calendar doesn't end everything first.
Son goes along for the ride. He doesn't think anything will happen, but that is a whole separate issue. He has a BOB, and knows where everything is if we have to bug out.
Daughter is on board but she is 1200 miles away. She has been through her fair share of natural disasters, and living alone has made here realize she has to be prepared. The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the reason is you are stupid, and make bad decisions.

:cool:been a while since i posted, time for an update...
oldest son recently joined my second to became a part of that artificially small unemployment statistic. now both oldest & second & their fams can't really depend on unemp. ins. or welfare entitlements to make ends meet, so they are depending largely on church food pantry/clothes closet/charitable contributions to make it from day to day. translation - theyre not thinking about survival prepping, theyre LIVING it! Third son just started graduate school, depending on his wife to pay the bills in the meantime. He hopes to soon join his wife in a teaching career which in both their cases require a masters degree. He sees the wisdom in prepping, but doesn't currently see any time or money he can devote to it.
Wife now TOTALLY sees the folly of our country's current leadership and totally trusts my judgement in my prepping efforts. She used to be leery of my decision to take all the money out of our savings to invest in gold bullion coinage, but now she doesn't even bug me anymore about what the market price for an ounce is. She can see that its more about economic safety than return on investments!JASCHF (Just Another 6.8 Cal Hunting Fan)

been awhile since last post . Wife still just deals with my prepping now. She thinks that the likely hood of anything happening here is nill to none. then there was the earthquake 4.3 hit eastern ky last week. helped my case some. she does like being able to grab my gear when a tornado siren sounds. still working on her though.
