My wife is starting to get on board with my stockpiling, though for the most part I do it without her noticing. A couple extra cans here and there and when she's not with me, a big bag of this or that and I have enough food to last several months, water, filtration and quite a decent first aid kit. One of our friends went to pick up some jerky from a stand and got 'schooled' on what's coming. The pair came to me and asked what to do. I had to calm them down and dispell a lot of the BS they were sold to sell them "dehydrated soup" and such, but they're on board too.

About that time we saw the blog posts from Ferfal and his efforts to survive the economic and political collapse of Argentina. Since Argentina was a relatively modern country and would be closest to what we might experience. We kicked our preps into high gear at that time.
SkyOwl evaluated the weapons, trading a couple, we wanted to narrow down the calibers of ammo we needed to stock. He bought more in the calibers we had (.45, .40, .22). Then he bought our EBRs and stocked for those and the shotguns.
I started preparing shopping lists for enough supplies to last at least a year for six people. And started buying. The last 900 lbs of wheat we bought constitutes the last from my list.
Then we cashed in my 401K and paid off our bills and started buying silver.
The point of this is that I, too, was scared and the supplies we've laid in give me peace of mind."If Howdy Doody runs against him, I'm voting for the puppet." - SkyOwl's Wife, 2012

As of right now I am happily single also. But I have been dating a woman for quite a while and the topic of enslavery has popped up a few times. lol I am fairly new to the prepping game and am doing my best to catch up and get stocked up on supplies. My eyes were really opened a couple years ago when I lost my job due to the company closing down. Of course this came a couple of years after my divorce and combined those events did just miraculous things to what savings I had. lol I learned how to make food last and managed to get by on meager pay. Now that my job situation is somewhat stable, and even though I now make half of what I used to, I am prepping like a son of a gun. If I would've had a good stockpile of preps back when the job went bye bye it would have certainly made my life easier in the transition.
Now back to aforementioned girlfriend, she has seen some of my preps and I've told her a small portion of my plans and efforts. She unfortunately has been brain washed from birth in the donkey clan way of thinking. no fault of hers, her father worked for a railroad and was a "union" man his whole life. But I have been pointing out the error of their ways and she seems to be coming around some. We have also had some deep conversations about where we will live in the future if we do get hitched. She was raised in the country like me and has had animals and gardens and such her whole life. We've talked about getting at least 10 acres with part of it wooded and some open area for a big garden and to have more animals. She doesn't quite know the whole extent to why I want the meals on hoof but she loves to raise animals so I figure that will work for now until I have her fully indoctrinated. :) In spite of her being a member of the donkey clan she does support my love of hunting, fishing, and camping. She has camped with me and gone fishing with me a few times. She even paid for my deer lease dues this year, so she can't be all bad. lol Now when I buy certain things I tell her its for either camping, hunting, fishing, or a rainy day if the power ever goes out. Which is only a little white lie and momma said a little white lie won't ever hurt anybody right? Want some chocolate with that?
For now I'll keep on prepping and try to get her on baord as much as possible. If not then she pretty much supports whatever I want to do so hopefully, she'll at least not try to stop my prepping efforts. but who knows, a certain type of cake has definitely changed a woman before!
