Sorry to hear that. :( Keep your chin up and do what you can to get back to where you were before the fire. Our thoughts are with you as you start over.As Zombie Axe would say...

This SOOOO sucks. I am very glad that you weren't hurt in the fire. If you and your family are safe, you can be grateful and start again. Also, with a case of MREs and an AK with 1K rounds, I'll bet you are better off than when you started last time.

Good advice about dividing your booty, Trapper. Maybe this happened to you in order to teach all of us. :("If Howdy Doody runs against him, I'm voting for the puppet." - SkyOwl's Wife, 2012

Dont get discouraged. I had a house fire on 4/18/94 and lost about everything that I owned.Funny how that date sticks in my mind when I cant even remember my mothers birthday or any other important dates for that matter. The important thing is that hopefully no one was injured and that you have decent insurance. My fire started in an attached garage and continued its way through the roof of the entire house eventually destoying everything. But thanks to the local Volunteer Fire Dept.,My guns and a bunch of family photos and videos of my kids when they were little were saved. Thanks to the support of my family and great neighbors the whole ordeal can be looked back on as more of a major inconvenience as opposed to a life altering event.I ended up in a major legal battle with my insurance carrier that lasted a little over 5 years and I was so broke I didnt have 2 nickles to rub together, but in the end I ended up on top of the situation.Looking back,a few things stand out in my mind. The night that the house burned,I was at Walmart at 2:00 am trying to but toothbrushes and diapers and school clothes so my daughter could go to school the next day and it dawned on me how much stuff that it took to keep us all moving forward on a daily basis(and it was astonishing).
I lived in a rental house about two blocks away for a year while we were rebuilding my house and when we went to move back after the house was repaired I was really surprised at the amount of stuff we had accumulated in one short year.I was busy most of the time working on the house and my wife was taking care of the kids and the rental house and we had little or no money most of that time so I just couldnt figure out where all of this stuff came from, but there was so much of it that when we moved out of this 900 square foot rental house back into my 3000 square foot residence that we had to actually give away a lot of junk that we didnt need because we had no place to store it.And the last thing that stands out in my mind is the generosity of total strangers when your in a disaster situation.I had people whom I didnt even know stop and hand my kids new clothes that they had purchased and try to give me money.I had friends who I hadnt really considered close friends, show up and help me clean up and tear down a lot of my house. I even offered to pay them but they wouldnt accept it.Of course I think very highly of these people to this day and I always will.On the flip side I remember how callous and uncaring that the insurance people became when I wouldnt follow their plan exactly as they laid it out, which was the cheapest and shodiest way that they could do anything. But in the end I prevailed. So keep your head up.Stuff is replaceable and before you know it you will have plenty of it.Good luck and if you need any help dont hesitate to ask.You might be surprised at how many people will step up.

Trapper,
Sorry to hear about the garage. Did it do anything to the house? Hope not. I have also experienced a loss of a house and almost everything in it. Mine however was due to arson ( we think it was a bunch of kids). We lost everything but our important paper work ( was in fireproof box), both of my guns ( fireman were all hunters) and my dog (whom they left in the house. It took us several years to actually regain all that we had lost. Main thing is to keep your chin up and tredge forward. Like others have said, try to use this as a way of seeing what you can improve on what you had. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Sorry for troubles and hopefully homeowners insurance will cover some of your loss.
I'm sure a lot of us here are in the same boat as far as having most everything stashed in one place. Usually our home.
Good lesson."Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end".
