I read several places of a "phone tree" and wondered how it would work for a "heads up" system for us or any of us that may have formed into local groups. It could be either a "phone tree" or an "email tree". I know I get on here as often as I can for info, but it's not always convenient. Trust would be an issue with giving out phone numbers, but the email might be a good idea as long as the computers are still working. Just a rambling thought!

In WW2 China based its air defense system on a phone-tree based within a grid system. if anyone saw or heard a plane they would call it into a local center with the basic info and air traffic control would plot enemy air traffic that way and alert thier own airbases, it was quite efficent.
something simular could be done on the innernet.

I added thread to pm me if anyone wants to participate. Some don't have a landline, but I will add those #'s of anyone that does and prefers to use that, so we can have both on the tree.

I am planning all of my contingencies without the use of modern technologies. If you think about using the internet...think about Iran and how the net is being manipulated and even blocked, if you think about Hurr. Katrina and how the phone and cell networks were flooded and eventually crashed, the modern networks that we have come to rely on have failed when you need them the most. The use of a messaging system that employs written messages starting on your home front door or under the "hide a key" rock will lead all family and/or friends that are to follow on their way along your designated "safe corridor".

If your other family members or network are "up to speed" on your plan they will be enroute to your designated "link up" sites. I for one will not rely on the use of: GPS, Cell phones, land lines, television, Emergency broadcast or FEMA or any other traditional means of communication, I will base my information on the chaos or lack of chaos in my immediate area. The more self reliant you are, the better off you are, I would however, limit my level of paranoia, "rumor control" has a tendancy to ruin ones self control.

For those that are interested, look into modern cache techniques and near-far recognition systems. Hikers use a number of recognition systems, not to mention there are an unlimited number of personal-home grown techniques that you can come up with.
