Pet Survival Kit

Has anyone put one of these together? I am in the process of doing this. I think he should have a bob of his own of course. I can easily do a kit if I stay in the farmhouse but if we have to bug out he will need a kit of his own. He cannot carry it as he is quite old with bone issues but he can travel on foot if necessary. He's got quite a few miles on him from the hiking we've done so I have no doubt he can make it the 12 miles to the BOL if necessary. I might be slow going but he can make it.
I would think that storing a years worth of food at the BOL would be good but for the bob does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking along the lines that if we get detoured for any reason and it takes us longer than planned. Like booties for his paws something like that. I'll have my water and filter of course.

My son has booties for his lab - for the winter. They go out camping and boonie hopping and the poor dog will keep going until his feet are frozen and bloody.

Suggest dry food for the road and both canned and dry for the BOL.

If he's old, he may start losing his teeth eventually, we had a cat that had exactly 2 teeth by the time she went to chase butterflys in the big meadow in the sky. Vet said she could eat dry food, but I didn't see how - fed her moist for the last year of her life. Don't forget to get him a "nice" rug or dog bed for the BOL. :p Yes, I have a soft spot for our animals. :rolleyes:

Great post. Thanks Wife. I think he's getting ready to loose a tooth pretty soon. I'm glad you brought that up. I will get some canned food for him and also a very nice rug. lol I make ragrugs. did i tell you that? Maybe I'll make one special for him. I have this great loom I made a couple of years back and need to make him one now.

Thanks for starting this thread. My babies are family and I have been pondering what to store for them at home and for BO. I have an older yorkie and two young larger dogs and a cat. Might sound silly, but I've thought about a baby carrier or sling for my yorkie in case we have to flee our home. I recommend a harness rather than a collar for larger dogs (at least for my crazies) in case they get spooked, as it's easier to control them. I don't know how they would adapt to shoes or boots, but I'm going to get some and let them get used to wearing them. I even thought of leg warmers made for babies. Maybe I'm going a bit overboard for them, but like I said, they are family. In the heat, I've got those cooling handkerchiefs that you wet and they stay cool for hours. Does anyone know anything about pet vitamins? After reading One Second After, I realized how important it is to prepare for my pets as well.

I haven't read the book yet, I'm still on Lights Out. But I think that anything you can do for your little 4 legged family is of great importance. Mine are all I have and to lose one because of my negligence would be just horrible. My boy Jake, is a Sheltie so I don't have to worry about cold just heat as he gets overheated at times because of his undercoat. I don't worry about the cats as they will fend for themselves. At least my mouser can. I have a RagDoll cat and she is just another human in discuise. I don't know if she could really fend for herself. Maybe the mouser would teach her to hunt. lol
I think booties are a very good idea, I will be getting some for Jake before winter sets in here in IL. Thanks for sharing.

I too have stored dog food and applaud all who have made provisions for their pets. Let's face it, if we are ever sitting in the dark, cold and hungry, with worthless money and looking like crap, they will love us as much as ever.

I love Tishrei don't get me wrong but I don't see how I could take her if I had to hike 12 miles to the BOL. I have a feeling she'd have to rough it. She may follow us I don't know. she's an indoor Ragdoll with little motivation and well, I just don't see it. She's at least 15 pounds and with my pack and Jake I don't think I could carry her very far.
She's part of the family for me too but.......just sayin'.......

Put the critters in carriers/ cages....place said containers on sled/wagon/trailer/ something you could pull behind you on your power or mule/ garden tractor. I think Mags posted a photo of his stuff on a sled while carrying more stuff....lots of possibilities :)

unfortunately ours went out of business 4 or 5 years ago. I don't know why, everyone I knew shopped there. Bum deal if you ask me!
