  • A real eye opener for me

Ok I have been planning, saving thinking I was perpaired knowing I could do more and do a better job at it but for the past four weeks I have been on loan to another office in Somerset New Jersey. I admit I am a country boy born and raised in south carolina but I have never seen so many sheeple in my life!

I now understand, my eyes are open, these people are going to be flocking out of here my the tens of thousands or millions looking for food, water and desperate people will do desperate things and most of these people have a bad me first attitude and most are biggots against southern people a lot more than we are against them. I can understand fully now where the term d-amn yankee comes from.

If you are from this area sorry about the rant, but this has been a real eye opener for me, as soon as I get back home some real prepping is going to be happening and I can realte to the old hank jr song "send me to hell or new york city it would all be the same to me"

I have been up here for a week or so before but never lived here for month.
why would any one want to live like this. I am passing on a 3-6 month project and will most likely be laid off in south carolina but right now cutting grass in dixie is better than beating pavement and pushing the pencil in new york.

People listen to me NO ONE AROUND HERE IS READY even thinking about it. they look at you like you have lost your mind if you talk about saving, farming, prepping for anything.

My eyes have been opened, I think I have arrived to my breaking point.
    rant over.

Well, I'm glad you've "Seen the Light"! I do want to tell you tho that not all "Yanks" are like that! I'm a "southern Yank" and proud of it and it's okay to feel like you're alone in a big world. Just do what you have to do for you and all will be well. I've had to take this attitude around here and it's really saved my anger a spurt!!!!!

Southern boy here, too... I was up in New England working a year ago, and was blown away at how NICE everyone was. I was not in urban areas, mostly out in smaller communities. But I was plesantly surprised, to say the least! I have not had the "pleasure" of landing in Jersey or New York yet, and it won't break my heart if I don't, either. But I have to say, I have run into plenty of rude folks here in NC, too (could they have been transplants? lol), but I'm with ya, I'll take my licks down here, thank you!

        Barracudabilly:

Just be very thankful of how you were raised and the things you were taught here in the South that will keep you alive. I was an adult before I hunted game for sport. We hunted game to have meat that night. We raised our own beef, chickens, vegetables, fruit, etc. We had to work hard but I am so thankful for the experience.

I've been in the upstate since 1979. Low country from 1955 until then. No better place in the world to "live". Teach as much as you can to all you meet and there will be less of them to mooch off of us!

You made me laugh at your post because I am from N.Y., but have lived in Va. for thirty years. I think people are people no matter where they are from. We tend to make friends with those who are like us, so we do not pay attention to those who are a little "strange." A lot of my family still live in N.Y., but trust me when I say they are the type of people you would like to have your back. I know a lot of people here in Va. who have their head in the sand and they will not wake up until it is to late.

Thank you littleone! This is a good testament of "You shouldn't judge people by where they live".

What scares me is where will these people try to go if TSHTF! I'm not near any big city, but still, I would hate to run into someo f those people. You hear about the hordes of refugees that will be trying to escape the cities, but knowing some of those people, it's just scary to think of.

                  opened eyes

Thanks for the great replies, I read every new post every day and have for months but don't post much. I talk funny and write worse, please forgive me.

Let me first back up and say I know all Yankees are not bad, the guys here in the office have been great to me very nice, except one comment I walked into about me missing my pick up truck and living in a trailer park, but I do have a heavy "gomper pyle" southern accent and I let it roll off my back, what really got my attention is when we had to drive into New York city or with in 15-20 miles of it all the people and traffic.

In my mind I could see all these people in a SHTF senero and asking myself where will they go? what will they do? Not if but when the SHTF my eyes were opened with this vision millions are going to die and really be in want and need but will not be prepared.

I started talking to the guy driving me to the job site about what would you do if something bad happened? Are you ready? do you have any kind of plan? His answer was shocking to me "um who cares, I guess we will just die"

When we got back to the office he started calling me a survivalist, no big deal, but what was a big deal was the way the other workers started coming over like I was some kind of new exhibit at the zoo asking why do feel you need a years worth of anything stored up? That’s what stores are for, ect ect

My first week up here the H1N1 flu was starting and it was close to real panic, people asking "what should I do, where should I go? a lot of people were scrambling to down load info on their lap tops and work from home, well I was stuck and had no option but to come in and use common judgment.

I know all northerns are not bad but I hear a lot more "red neck" jokes and off color comments about southerners up here than I hear Yankee jokes back home. Another sad part over all this If was Black and endured a month of this I would own this company.

Back to my original reason for this post. where are all these people going to go? Back home I worry about Charlotte and Atlanta but that is nothing compared to the people that will be driving or walking down I-95 headed south, scared, hungry, thirsty, desperate. This is a lot worse than I could ever imagine,

                  My vision really up-set me.

                    You write just fine, love.

IMHO, I suspect the people "walking down I-95" won't walk far. Predators will discover the "game trail" and be watching for them. Back roads will be rough too. Small towns may block the roads to rob and or keep refugees out. If you have to move, you will probably be off-road or you won't move far.

I think most city people in the north, south, east or west will at first not belives that the SHTF event is real or will happen to them. ( becuase they are above it ) Then they will go to phase 2, they will belive what the government tells them. ( "that it is under control" ) Then phase 3, they will shut themselves in because they know that FEMA and other government organizations will save them, provide for them and protect them. ( people waiting on roofs during Katrina ) Then phase 4, when it all goes wrong and they wake up they will begin looting, rioting and fighting. A lot of them will not leave the city becuase no matter how bad it gets it is all they know . You may get some sportsman, LE, or MIL families that know it is time to get out of Dodge but I think if others finely do leave the will be in rough shape and unorganized with no plans or supplies. That would make them dangerous to those who have not planed for this. Then there are the people on here and others who have plans and supplies in place for this situtaion :D

I'm sorry you got so upset over that vision. I know just the thought of millions of people scrambling like ants to get somewhere is terrifying but remember, you will be ready and you have a plan. Get your plan and live it. Be the plan. Know the plan. Do all you can do to avoid being in the middle of the millions.
I believe you when you talk about the "redneck" jokes. It's certainly in poor taste and I for one am sorry about that. But be bigger than those who would dispitefully make fun of you. You are better than that.

One of the fellows who works for me was a NY city boy. I asked him what he thought ppl there would do if the SHTF, he said they'd all lock themselves in until it got too late because "it's all they know".

Sounds like you and he know it well!

I grew up in syracuse ny visited new york many times in my twentys I was always blown away by the people in new york ,they think the world revolves around newyork. All they know about the world is filtered by the new york media. dont feel bad they despise the people who live in upstate new york.Imagine being 45 years old and never have driven a car,or living in a apartment your entire life.City people are totally dependent on the goverment and see everyone else as cash cows to support thier lifestyles. I know this sounds harsh but after living in upstate new york for 30 years I got tired of being taxed to death and treated like a hick by people from new york city.I moved to north carolinia 20 years ago and would never move back to new york. My biggest fear is I may have to move to south carolinia because I see north carolinia going down the same road as new york went, high taxes on everyone to serve a few taking away peoples rights and forcing a few peoples views on everyone. Thanks for letting me rant.
