  • Good Emergency Supply source if SHTF

When the burning and looting starts and you forsee a long siege in your own little castle I have a couple suggestions for you depending on your locations.

For Food: Since they won't be opening again anytime soon if ever, head to your local school cafeterias ASAP. Huge cans of veggies, Pudding, Fruit mixes and who knows what else are stocked in quatities to feed hundreds for up to a couple weeks. Imagine how long that would feed your family. Not to mention they probably stock pasta in mega bulk. If you preplan this you might be the first one there!

Last Chance Vehicle: State and University motor pools have hundreds of 4x4 trucks fueled, ready and waiting. Keys inside the motor pool office (Trust me on this one) ;) Some of them even have those real nice two person, dump bed John Deer Gators.

Fuel: See above, these motor pools have ready supplies of both. Also groundskeeping sheds for large facilities usually have a nice supply of 87 octane on hand.

Medical supplies: Everyone who isn't already prepared will raid hospitals for medical supplies after the stores are looted. Be the smarter cookie and head to the nearest supply warehouse/distributor that serves all the hospitals in your area. The supply everything except the Pharmaceuticals in most cases. (I already got this on lockdown)

I can only fit so much in my basement. But when the feces starts 'a flyin I will be driving to each of these locations....
Disclaimer: I do NOT suggest implementing said plan unless its a REAL SHTF scenario and these facilities will be abandoned anyways. Don't get all liquored up this weekend and go on a supply raid and said IronHorse told me to.

Unfortunetely, shcool cafeterias do not keep a large stock of food (neither do nursing homes and such)...most places are on a weekly (or at most, monthly) delivery system. They don't like to leave food on hand during vacations and holidays. Most places also don't have large storage spaces for this either, unfortunetely. It's really sad, but the truth is that many if not most laces in our country would be out of food after a week if an emergency hit. Sure, you'll find huge bottles of ketchup and relish, maybe a giant bag of frozen fishsticks, but not much else. (worked at several and that's what I've found)

I aggree with ya.. The city locals (schools, cafe's) will be looted days before most of us get drawn away from the local news. The rual areas', hopefully will take control of what stock that they have and disburst it to those who where caught without. But on a scavengers trek, they all would be a good place to "sniff out" the corners and see what was left. However, looks like a good place to get ambushed as well. Start working that into your thinking. "A good find?" is good place to get robbed, or worse.

i never thought about schools, sheds and motor pools. thanks. i always had thought about hospitals, grocery stores, excreta. But it gets me thinking everyone will be at those places making it a potentially dangerous situation that i wouldn't even want to deal with.

wouldn't that still be considered looting??

Get your preps in NOW (even your stock of pudding) so you don't have to be out there.

I agree Bro. Take care of your needs now and stay home.

That might be true in many areas. I can only speak for what I have seen with my own eyes. Apparently the facility I have seen is stocked on a monthly basis. There were plenty of bulk food goods in large cans as well as pallets of water bottles. I do agree with Brosia and lazer128 that you should stock up now to prevent. This is just a suggestion of where too look for extras... As for the looting... If there is a situation where society as we know it ends, no possibility of recovery of these facilities for a few decades... I would say that is just good scavenging.

I'd like to add a few places.
Stores that rent equipment to the public.Generators, hand tools, etc.Construction sites-Dynamite shacks?,equipment
                    Vetrinary Hospitals,Dentist offices,clinics,the local fairgrounds,
Figure out where the main supply warehouse for the company that distributes the Medicines for your community(every town has one), this place is usually not very well fortified against a good try of force to enter.
I would probably stay away from the local gun stores, even if I new the owner well. Ha,ha.
One item I have never seen on here for a tool. Is one of those rotary hand pumps that you transfer fluid through a hose. Good for transfering fuel. Mine is from the military, a few years old and fits on a water hose. It can suck fluid 25 feet vertical. Just enough to get gas out of a tank at the local Get and Go when the electricity is out!

Good idea Shadowwalker! Another thing to remember is to keep it with you in your vehicle as well as several empty gas and/or deisel cans.
I am of the mind that I will probably stay put in place instead of rushingo ut to loot or get the last supplies I can...it will be much safer to wait and let things die down a bit.

Another type of place know one thinks of is big corporate offices. I know several in the KCMO area has resturaunts in them. With walkin coolers and freezers. Not to mention first aid kits, fire extinguishers, maintanence supplies and tools, etc etc.

I saw that one being used in the will smith movie where he is supposedly the last human on earth. Great idea, where did you get your pump? DRMO?

                            cafaterias and such

Here in AZ the schools are on a weekly stocking basis, so hitting the wearhouse is the ticket. Also the university I work at has large stores of food in the stadiums and cafaterias. And fuel is of no problem everythig I have IE truck / generator all run on deisel and the underground storage tanks are not locked and only a couple of us know about it, 35000 gallons worth. Another good food stop would be resturaunts like hometown buffet they are stocked pretty well. the grounds department has the batteries we will need for power storage. look in the golf carts.
