  • Fake stash

On another thread someone was talking about booby-trapping their stash, or poisoning it. Which made me think, what about a separate 'fake' stash? Sure, this could be real food, real goods, etc. But say only 1/3 of your stash is visible to most invaders with the remaining stash well hidden and secure.

We've discussed fake walls, burying the stash, etc. I have a few places that I dont think anyone would look, or only the very experienced marauder/government 'social distributor' would find. The cabinets and under the beds will have some food and supplies, sure, and easily found. Fake walls? no problem.

I wouldnt hide anything in an underground hole that would have metal like a tin can, in case they come with metal detectors. (is that paranoid?) I'll probably even take the metal handles off of the buckets, easilly slipped out of the carry-holes. Maybe two underground stashes? Who knows. Lots of options and alternatives.

Just some random wandering thoughts here....

Fake walls are easy to build and cheap, too....you can build a 8' x 16' wall over an existing one for less than $100 and have around 27 cuft of hidden space....

I know someone that has a fake wall, and there is a thermostat on the wall that is fake as well. You pull the cover off of the thermostat and there is a small wire attached to it that pulls a latch to open the wall.

All of my stash is fake. The weapons are non-functioning display models, the canned goods are either empty or mislabled dog food.
Tragically...all of my "real" stash was lost in a recent boating accident :)

Misdirection and false perceptions are the key IMHO. Let them see what they expect. Hide in plain site.

That being said I am still pondering where and how to stash ammo and guns.
You can't get here from there. ;)

You can always build a wooden box using non metal "nails" and bury it. To defeat most metal detectors you can build another wooden box and leave it empty so that it basically becomes dead air, place it on top of the box with your stash and bury them together. Most metal detectors have to be held a certain distance above the ground to detect properly, if there is too much air between the detector and the ground it wont function right.

Raising the floor up a few inches can provide good space as well.

There are tons of places to hide things in your home. Removing the top of the door jam enables you to hide smaller things inside the dead space of the walls above doors and windows. Install "fake" outlets and light switches that can be removed to hide things behind them. A friend of mine has plank walls in his basement and he fixed one to be able to pop it out easily. He hides his 9mm behind the insulation of the plank. You can cut open the top of your hollow core doors and glue in some wooden slats to make a "bucket. No one can really see the top of interior doors so ideally no one would ever notice the hole in top. You can just drop items into the door and they will stay just a few inches from the top. Wrapping items in a towel or something to that effect will keep things from rattling and making noise when the door is opened and closed. Shower curtain rods, curtain rods, closet rods make good hiding places for small objects.

                        Hey Lo,

I was the guy who started the fake stash thread in an attempt to just give the intruder something so they would leave but poision the food, I have since changed my mind about that idea unless things get real ugly. then I would use exlax or something just to make them sick. anywho

On the idea of a hidden underground stash I am in the planning stages of building my retirement cabin BOL and one thing I am working out with one of my contractors is a extra tall septic tank. I am thinking about having it delivered to the site several weeks early and water proofing the heck out of it and have it set 4 foot under my basement floor. The tank I am kicking around is 5 ft wide by 8 ft long and 7 ft tall. it will make a good root celler, storage stash, hiding place. I am aslo thinking another one buried outside the cabin area with a second ecape hatch and connecting them with a pipe. The installed new concrete septic tank is around 4k each and it would make a good storm shelter too.

Ever think about fake duct work . Or a scrap water heater both look normal and can be used to conceal things in and neither looks out of place when set up to look normal.

                              Stashes- Ground

This is mainly to Losh since she was talking about burying a stash but it applies to anyone really. Nowif you bury something you can make it have anything you want, evn metal.
First, dig the hole a little deeper than needed for your stash. Second put your stash of canned foods, guns, ammo, whatever is airtight and waterproof containers. Then put them in a box(wooden or plastic), or even platic garbage bags, or a large capped PVC pipe. Then pack in dirt around it real tight. Third, put some of scrap metal in the hole.
Lastly, cover the scrap metal with dirt and make the surface look like the surrounding ground. Now if someone use a metal detector they will detect the scrap dig down to it and VOILA be disgusted that they had "wasted" their time digging up junk and will make them want to leave that much faster.
