Say I have a desire for hardwire comms between 4 or 5 locations, the farthest one being,maybe,1 mile away. The ability to converse with one or all locations at the same time would be nice. What would be a practical way to accomplish this? Not necessarily restricted to milsurp, maybe some commercial solution. Any ideas, or do I continue with the tin cans and string while speaking pig latin?

Dunno, but we used to do it with military handsets... IIRC there was a place that the pigtails from the commo wire plugged into. It allowed us to communicate all on the same line. May could connect all the lines together (one wire from each phone to the same wire from the others to make 2 connections) to bypass the mini switchboard. Heck it is only 2 wires and it is setup like a party line...

Will need field telephones for this...

May want to look @ http://www.bunkerofdoom.com/mil/tele...ilphones1.html

WOW! Kudos and thanks for those links, Z A. Just relocated to a rural area and would like to set up convenient comms with like minded neighbors. With those links you provided we should be able to get something going. Again, thanks for the info.

Is Tacticcomusa selling these radios? It was hard to tell from their website and there were no prices listed. Have you done business with this company ZA?

If you need to use long runs of wire, common stereo speaker wire works great, you can find some very well-insulated varieties in bulk at decent prices from MCM Electronics or Mouser.

I think the US Army TA512 sets can run a couple miles of wire (that is well-insulated) and still not have horrible signal loss.

For a permanent installation I would suggest jelly filled buried phone wire. The jelly filled wired will keep the water out and allow you to not hafta replace wire as often.

For temp use speaker wire is pretty good, I would go with something in the 18-20 gauge range for runs up to a mile, but 22 awg will do ok as well...

Das, sorry I missed your question directed to me, but no I have not done business with these folks, I was just referencing some items.

              Welcole methusaleh!
