I have a question

If I have "On Star" in my car can that be disconnected and in turn be used to hook up some kind of radio communication.
Now, before you roll your eyes, :rolleyes: Please realize up front that I know absolutely NOTHING about this kind of stuff. This will probably be a pretty cut and dry answer but if I don't ask I will never know. Right? Okay, now you can roll your eyes. :rolleyes::D

Don't ever depend on cell towers, land lines, relay stations or satellites when it comes to communication during and after a catastrophic even. That includes “on star”.

Self powered and multiple bands to listen and observe. If you want to talk back...I ask why and what do you have to say that is worth being triangulated upon? Why not just give your town and address while you are at it?

Skyowl's truck has Onstar, mine does not. That's fine with me.

Did you know that it is illegal to discuss classified info in a vehicle equipped with Onstar? Apparently, they can listen in w/o you knowing it. FedGov has made it against the rules to discuss such things in a rental car, since you never know when it's equipped and when it isn't if they choose to not advertise the fact.

to the best of my knowledge they can be disconnected or purchased without it, your dealer might be weliing to do some kind of trade-in to one without it...
best bet though might be to get something older that dosent have any of that computery trackable crap and so it can be worked on without anything overtly high-tech...incidentally anyone know of anyone sellin a cj-7?

I guess I don't either. I am tho very involved with some political groups here and also with my church. We, the church,and my family, are pretty outspoken about our rights and if we have to bug out I don't want them to know where we are. For any reason.........just sayin'.........

I have an issue with ANYTHING that can track me. Which is why I like my dodge. It has bluetooth handsfree and gps that is on a cd.

No.....the antenna is frequency specific. Look in your owner's manual or ask your auto dealer for the location of the fuse that serves the On Star and remove it.
Communications radios use 50 0hm coax cable to connect to an antenna. I may be mistaken but I believe the onstar uses a 75 ohm coax.
