    While they are significantly more expensive, I decided to go with the Yaesu FT60R. I have not had good luck with cheap Chinese stuff.

    I am of the opinion that in a SHTF situation, you don't want to depend on low quality hardware. From weapons to radios, I think its important to have quality.

      The only thing with the Baofengs for me, was I switched out the rubber duck for a larger Nagoya, which works very well. I can hear off the Goat Mountain repeater which is 70+ miles away on the Baofeng which is crystal clear, but in order for them to hear me, I probably have to hook up the Jpole.

      In a SHTF situation, maybe I do not want to be able to TX that far however....

      My base I am currently leaning towards a Yaesu FT-7400 Transceiver and a Diamond antenna.
