It would be interesting to see what kind of reaction you'd get if you cranked it up while driving past a mosque or whistled it whenever you seen the man in the long beard with his shrouded pet-wife in tow in the grocery store.

I read a bio of this guy 2 years ago, wish I could remember the title of the book. Anyway the guy was brought to the US by a mid-west collage that prided itself on it's liberal theolagy after WW2. Qutb wanted to become westernized, he had been shuned by everyone at home, and he was welcomed on campus (where he taught). Apparently his personalality did not win any friends and when a fellow (woman) teacher refused to sleep with him he went nuts condeming all things western and became the poster child of radical Islamists.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that about Qutb. Perhaps "Baby, It's Cold Outside" sent Qutb into a tizzy because the man in the song ultimately succeeds in getting the girl.

One thing's for sure: "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is really a song that celebrates everything that is true, good, and wonderful about the Western (and in particular, American) way of life.

The people in this song do not think that everything in life is insh'allah (Arabic for "by the will of God,") but think that they have a choice in life. They are faced with a natural peril of a snowstorm, but rather than remain passive and resigned, they each want to act in spite of the snowstorm and make the best of things. The woman wants to leave for home in the snow and struggle against it and the man wants to get her to stay and they each offer arguments in favor of their respective courses.

The woman offers arguments based on tradition, family authority, and popular reputation, and the man demolishes them all with arguments based on practicality, medical reasons, and above all appeals to the senses with warmth, music, smoke, and drink. Unlike the Muslim man, the man in the song doesn't have to use humiliation and force to get the woman he wants and the song ends happily with the two in one accord.

"Baby, It's Cold Outside" needs to be running on the playlist of Voice of America and Armed Forces Radio for the entire duration of the War on Islamofascism. That way, our troops are constantly reminded of everything good we're fighting for and so that our enemies know that we are relentless and will not be wiped out by a Stone Age worldview.

I have no problem with a Stone Age Worldview, as long as they do not try to force it on me. I like indoor plumbing (when I have a chance to use it) and a nice warm/cool place to sleep. Truely they are "The Barbarians at the Gates" and our leaders are "Fiddling while Rome burns"
