  • Looking for a vest for my dog

As you folks may have seen, I have a decent working/hunting dog of the Rat Terrier variety. Most people would not consider such a small dog a worker, but I would disagree. Recently I have really been thinking about what would happen if I had to bug out, and this thinking involves the value my dog has to add as a hunter of small critters. In thinking like that I have been looking for him a small vest with pockets so he can carry 1-2 lbs of stuff with him. This being said, I have uncovered a very disturbing thing out there. People are doing some sick things to their animals. I am appalled!!! The death sentence is not good enough for people that do this to an animal!!

We share our first-hand experience with today's foremost dog brands. If it's not good enough for us, it's not good enough for your dog!

If anyone knows where I can get a small vest for a 15 lb dog, that has pockets, I would appreciate it. Or if anyone has a wife, or husband, or even yourself that could sew one, let me know. It does not need to be this fancy.

I found one on a K-9 Police dog site, but they want $125.00. They are obviously doing something more then storing the seized dope in the evidence locker at this organization.

Any suggestions would be helpful. And, no, I am not putting my dog in a dress. If I dressed my dog like the ones in the first link, I would have to kill him, then myself out of shame!!!

That looks like it should work out fine. I was just sitting here thinking that I could make one with an Ammo belt for .22's and pockets for smokes or misc, items.:)

About 30 years ago I went on a 100 mile wilderness trek. My wife sewed a pack for my 20 pound dog who was very happy to carry it. The pack was a bit larger than the Outward Hound pack it had now under pad and used velcro instead of straps and buckles I think it weighed about 3-5 pounds. What I had not counted on was what the extra weight did to the dog's feet on rough ground. I ended-up carrying that pooch pack the whole trip, almost carried the dog as well!

I found what I was looking for today in Midland. I took into account Kenno's advice about wieght and bought this little jewel. Each pouch can hold 2 FAL mags, or a few boxes of .22's, and a couple of doggie energy bars.
The little scum bag bit me twice and almost took my hand off trying to get him into this. I figure I will consider him a walking BOB, and thus needs to be ready to bug out at any time. I am not going to take this off him for a while. He is getting used to it now.

This was $14.00 plus tax at Petsmart in Midland. It was the last one, so the color sucks, but at least I have it.

I'll send him your way and let him gnaw on you a bit. He needs his nails trimmed and I cannot find my shoulder length leather Falcontry gloves.

I have about given up on this vest. It turns into a blood bath every time I try to put him in it. Suggestions?

Scold him when he resists and give him a nice treat when he's done getting fitted and when he's un-fitted....or just eat him and get another dog......;)
