  • Bald Eagle Birth

The Raptor Resource Project has a live cam on a nesting pair of bald eagles. These huge birds are amazing, as are these videos and the live cam.

They have three eggs this year, watch one escape its egg early this AM, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U_pme0dPhs

To watch the live web cam, go here: http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles#...medium=3064708

That one can be somewhat dull, especially at this time of night. I did just watch mom or dad re-arrange the 2 remaining eggs and see the little guy holding up a shaky head to look at his parent.

She laid the 2nd egg three days after the first and the 3rd four days after that, so there will be two more hatchings over the next week.

    Enjoy!

Yes, I know that eaglets hatch, they aren't born. :o

2nd baby hatched early this AM (Apr 3rd).

Daddy has brought a rabbit to the nest, I just saw Mom rip off some gobbets and feed the first hatchling and then snuggle down on top of his little I-want-out-from-under-you self.

Looks like she's working on the entrails first, they must like them best.

I just got home from work and opened the window into the nest. Waiting for Mom to move so I can see if we've hatched #3.

Whup! She just stood up, still has one egg!

I've continued to tune into the eagles. They have 3 cute fuzzy babies.

Here's "the owl incident". Apparently, an owl got too close to the nest, both parents spent about 5 minutes warning them off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZk7K...&feature=share They were MOST unhappy. Some of their titles are ... overstated, but they are fun to watch.

Every evening when I get home I watch. It's usually right around feeding time. Fascinating! Now THAT is survival!

I tuned in this morning to check on progress, and there is snow everywhere! For the last few days, they've not tolerated being sat on and lolled out from under her but today she's got all three of those now-largish chicks tucked completely under her.

                  Amazing!

Once again, logged in to see lots of snow. The lens of the camera is almost completely covered. Saturday's snow was all gone by late afternoon, this looks like it's still in progress.

I tuned in that day as well. At first glance I thought it was thick smoke and the camera had paused. My heart fell as I imagined that there must be a forest fire nearby. I refreshed the screen and only then noticed that there was bird movement behind the "smoke" actually snow. They're looking good today.
That big one is a trouble maker.. Always doing things his way regardless of what Mom says.:D

Those of you near the Raleigh, NC area, there is an eagle preserve at Jordan Lake. We would often watch the adult eagle's teaching the youngsters how to fish. It made it another reason, boating was fun there. Good nature leasons for my daughter....

The babies are laid out tonight like three bodies in a row. Mom is sleeping next to them. It will be interesting in the next couple of days because Iowa is predicted to get up to 9" of rain.

They are getting too big to "sit on", even though the littlest one burrowed half under her earlier today. Last night, both mom and dad were sleeping in the nest - that was the first time I've seen both there except for changing of the guard and food deliveries. Wondered at the time if it was now taking both of them to keep babies warm.

I saw a pic once of a bird (don't remember what kind) sitting with wings out and the little ones sitting under the wings like a tent. Wonder if we'll see that here!

My mom is crazy over the eagle camera. I have to admit that I do occassionally take a peek myself. Whoever thought of braodcasting this live was a genius.
