  • Dual Survival! season 3= no Dave Cantenberry!

    Sad news!

The next season of Dual Survival will not have Dave, but will still have Cody!

No word yet on who is replacing Dave, but hopefully it will be someone that can play off of Cody the way that Dave did.
To me, that's what made the show so good. They taught well, but got along like a bad marriage. Reminds me of "Sarge & Fillmore" from the movie "Cars". (Pixar film)

The worst part for me is, I dont have nor do I want TV! I gotta wait over a year befor I might be able to watch online.

I hope it's not Bear Grylls, I can't stand him. I'd be good with Les Straud, he is the real thing.

Hmmmm not sure about that, but I hate that the team is changing. It was the different world view that made it fun. Hey, I know that one of our regulars is friends with Dave, I don't remember which one, but, maybe if you know him, ask him whats up? Get us the inside scoop!

Yea, you got me there, that was pretty dumb. I hope the new guy has the C.O. Jones to take a wild hog with only a knife like Dave did.

That was the beauty of the show; they each had their strengths, and they worked together to survive. I thought their friendship and mutual admiration grew over time. They learned to trust each other in different situations. I am disappointed to see Dave leave.

I have been a Cody Lundin fan since I first saw him in Backpacker magazine about 15 years ago. I have followed his lead for a lot of my prepping especially with a BOB.

Yep, I don't mind seeing these guys try something that doesnt go as planned (Like the bees) because that is really a part of survival.
Show me what works, but also show me what doesnt. I can learn just as much from watching a fail, as from a success.
Fire starting for example, a lot of these guys make it look like as soon as you touch two sticks together they burst into flame. I have tried it, and this stuff is hard. (Of course, down here the humidity is way high.)
But I don't mind when they show a failed attempt. Makes me have a more realistic expectation when I go to try something.

Great point myakka62 - How many of us have a plan B? You scratch your head and say "Well that didn't work. I have to think this through again". When the experts fail it makes them human like the rest of us.

I really liked the team aspect of the show. Dave couldn't start a fire like Cody, but I don't think Cody could make a bow and shoot a turkey like Dave did. Two heads are better than one. Stick together, listen to each other, and keep an open mind.

It is the by-play and different styles that made the show work. They were a solid team (at least in the broadcast). I'll miss Dave.

Dose any one know why Dave is leaving the show?

I was so embarrassed today. I got caught peeing in the pool. When the lifeguard yelled at me I jumped and damn near fell in.

I hope this link works. There are comments from Dave Canterbury on leaving, but nothing on a replacement.

I liked Dave too, but am glad he is gone. He IS an excellent woodsman, but once I found out he was a POSER (re- ranger, ect...) I lost respect for the guy. I would rather he tell the truth about his Army career and let his survival skills do the talking... For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, search this forum. I think there is a thread about it..

I had a co-worker who was always talking about viet-nam. Long story short, another worker who did serve went with me to the courthouse and we pulled his dd214. He entered service within 2 weeks of saigon falling. By the time he was trained, it was over. his dd214 also didn't give him credit for service in that theater.
