I'm surprised at the people that publicly identify everything they are doing to prepare; might just as well put a bullseye on your door as a "resource rich target". Even forums like this, it's okay to share experience but not much else. There is just too much info to be "mined" from the net, that can be linked back to specific individuals. FB is dang near a wet dream for criminals and intelligence agencies, due to all the personal info that people list there.

It is a mistake to (put your heads in the sand). If we become just a few dedicated preppers then we will become a fringe group and looked upon and laughed at.

In stead of hiding we need to be open and gather other like minded people to our ranks. Why you ask; expose ourselves to what you have already mention?

Here is an example: The Tea Party movement. For the first year no one took us seriously. Now look at us with 23 members in Congress after 3 years. We expect even more this election including 4 senators. We are now threatening to change the Presidential Election results.

Do many people take the Tea Party seriously now? You can bet on it!

So shall it be with preppers. We are not hurting anyone. We use our freedoms to choice a life style that works for us, and does not interfere with other peoples lives. We look out for our-self's, families, friends, God, and our country. Plus as our movement grows you will have less possibility of droves of people trying to take your preparations of many years.

They're gonna have to search far & wide to get crazier than they had on this year!

I will just say that without that show My husband and I would not have even thought about or looked for additional information about prepping and what is going on in the world. Even though the shows are somewhat bizarre it does get you thinking about things. I also think that there will be a lot more we hear on these families in regards to them being over run by the government people. Especially the pipe bomb guy.

For the most part my husband and I keep our prepping to ourselves, don't want to be targeted when tshtf. But life is full of uncertainties so what is wrong with having extra resources on hand.

The show is entertainment as O.W. mentioned in an earlier post. They make these people look like lunatics strictly for entertainment value, and it gives us all a bad name. I would bet that they, the Producers, tell these people what they are prepping for. Why would a fireman in New York City be preparing for the Yellowstone eruption? It is ridiculous. That said, I look for the reality threads in these shows. The gal in Montana who had the Armageddon Inn survived the trainwreck/explosion when all of the power went out in the middle of a Montana winter. It changed her life.

The guy in Missouri who survived the ice storms a couple of years ago. I know some people who were without power in the winter for three months. These are frightening, and maybe life threatening experiences. I know. I was there. These are the things that could be really beneficial, but would probably make for lousy ratings.
