The great depression started in 1929 and lasted until 1940 thats is 10 years. At the peak of the great depression 15 million people were unemployed in the US. The unemployment numbers for the US. for 11/08 were 10.6 million. Remember November is right before Christmas so there is a hirring spike right before the holiday shopping season. So I think that the numbers for February 09's unemployment will be over 14 million. We are at the event horizion. This to me will be the next SHTF

When this country finds itself in depression II, I believe money will take on a high value, then quickly plummet to worthless due to the value people place on the items they have left. A 5lb bag of flour for, say, $5 will become a 10lb bag of flour for $3.50. This continues until supplies run short, then the dollar won't even buy a sugar packet. Those who end up with the money will be out of everything, and piled to the gills with worthless pieces of paper.
