Your extensive analysis is not useless at all. It gives us not only a better understanding of Putin and Luzhkov, but equally of Vladamir "Crazy Vlad" Zhirinovsky. That nut was all but ready to bring back the Cossacks back in the early Nineties!

Russia is not out of the darkness yet. And it shows when the only alternative to Stalin Lite is some Russian equivalent of Lyndon LaRouche. True friends of freedom in Russia are a very lonely (and presumably quiet) lot.

Russian Nationalism has taken over. Putin is a smart man. He has made the longing for the days of the Soviet part of the Russian psyche. And, from a Russian perspective, the days of the Soviet were the days of Glory. The Ruskies have always looked at themselves as the defenders of the Slavic people. It is a very Nationalistic, Racially motivated ideology. From the days of the kingdom of the Kieven Rus, through the darik days of the Khanates control of the steppes, through the rule of the Czars (Russian for Ceaser) the Russians have kept a national identity. Putin has taken many of the things that are unique to the Russians and forged and redfined a national identity.

1. Vodka is more then just a national drink. It was raised to "Eucharist" standards under the athiest Communists.
2. Almost saint status was give to Rurik, the founder of the Rus and first royal family of Russia. Even though he was a non-slav, the Russian revisionists have turned him into the "Father of the Slavs"
3. The rise, continued existence and following of the Russian Orthodox church. Putin himself was suposably babtised, and most of the Commie leaders were also. Despite the official doctrine of athiesm in the USSR, the church thrived.
4. The old "Super Arayan" philosophy of the people as the Super race, redefining those chosen people as Slavs. (By the way, the German word for slave is "Slav")
5. The almost universal oppression of the Jews. Now, this is almost humourous. I am going to write some things here that may challenge some folk's religious doctrine, but I actually wrote my college thesis on the Kahzars. Back many moons ago there was a tribe in the Russian Steepes that were animists. The Muslims were pushing in from the Southeast, The Byzantian empire was pushing in from the south and the Latin Church was exerting power from Rome. Other heathen tribes were putting on a lot of pressure from the East. I cannot remember the name of their leader, but he openly invited all of the religions of the day to come speak with him, and to convince him that their ways were correct. He did not like what the Roman church did by forcing the city states to bow to the will of Rome, and felt the same about the Byzantians. They had a real problem with the Muslims, as the Kahzars were serious hard drinking folks. They spoke with the Zoroastrists, the Budhists and the Hindus, but finnaly the leader chose to convert his whole nation to Judiasm. Today these folks are known as the Ashkanazi, and many of them emigrated to Israel. Back in the day when the pressure on their Khanate (country) was too great they fled throughout all of Europe. The Germans invited millions of them to come and take over the banking, as Catholisism forbid Christians of that era from engaging in the business of lending money. (This is why Pre Nazi Germany had so many Jews). Today, in Israel you will hear Russian and a form of Russian Yiddish being spoken everywhere.

These Kahzars were very pivotal in European history. They were the first line of defense for many years against the Heathen Muslim invaders, they were the backbone of the banking and jewelry trade in Europe, and made up many of the huge European houses such as the Rothchilds and many others. Many of the "pure Jews" do not consider them Jews, rather an inferior race of people who converted to Jewry.

Under the communist system these Jews were severly oppressed. It is estimated that the early purges killed 8-9 million of them in the re-education camps of Siberia. The semitic Jews of the middle east did not consider them Jews, and the Russians did not consider them Slavs. Much of the Supreme Soviet's dislike of them was due to the fact that traditionaly they were businessmen and capitalists. However, in recent years the Ruskies have accepted them as an undemining inflence in Russian society, but due to the fact that most had already immigrated to Israel, it was not a real major decision. This is the reason that today, you see the Ruskies supporting the enemies of Israel. You also see that a lot of the Israeli home grown weapon's systems are Russian copies/improvements. Kahazars took the knowlege they had and adapted it.

Putin has capitalized on this and you often hear him talking about "outside inluences" on Russian internal policies. When he says this he is referring to Jewish and Western influences. Because we support Israel, we support the Kahzars, and thus we are the enemies of the Russian people. It is a very Nazi-esque thought pattern.

Because Putin has redifined what it is to be "Russian", he is seen as the Ultimate Russian himself. Thus, whatever Putin decides, must be good for Mother Russia. Decisions can easily be directed towards national security intrests, and a mumuring of "The Jews are influencing us again, so we must do this to protect the Motherland" often accompanies these policy decisions. If you have ever read 1984 and Animal farm, a tyrranical regime always needs an enemy, whether real or imaginary, so it can ramrod decisions down the people's throat based on protecting them. Putin is the master of this. He now has so many "enemies" in his repritoire that the people do not question whatever decisions he makes. There are the Jews, the Muslims, the West, the Chinese, the Georgians, the Chenyians. It does not matter that temporary alliances are made with many of these groups at different times. If the state says it is necessary, then it is necessary.

If all of this is taken into account, Putin is a national hero. He is the thing of Russian legend. He is as Charlamegne is to the Germans, Arthur is to the Brits. Putin is the sleeping hero, returned by the grace of God, and the Orthodox church to save the Slavic people's of Europe from its enemies.

I know I rambled on, but this is one area of history where I am pretty well versed, and I thought I would share my perspective on Putin.

Rumour had it, after a couple of Putin's rivals were found decapitated with a few holes in their heads, he bent over backwards to tow the line. There was a lot of hope in this guy. Nice to know he has changed from his pro free speach platform to a bash the gays platform.

While I agree on your point about Putin, I just can't see how this guy's numbers can be denied in light of current events, and those not so current.

I'll try to find a link to some more in-depth writings by Dr. Panarin on the subject....rather than just 2nd or 3rd-hand reporting, that is.
