I think that it will be very helpful and could save lives. Myself like others find them selves away from the radio or TV most of the time but I always have my phone with me.
I have a droid x I got last august, it has this built in. It hasn't gone off yet, though. It has 3 settings. It can warn you of Amber Alerts near you, and of bad weather near you. These 2 settings you can turn off, if you choose. The 3rd alert setting is messages from POTUS, and you cannot turn this off. So Komrade President always has a direct line.
