  • Civil Unrest Coming says CitiGroup?

Gold is poised for a dramatic surge and could blast through $2,000 an ounce by the end of next year as central banks flood the world's monetary system with liquidity, according to an internal client note from the US bank Citigroup.

Yeah man, I read something about that today. Seems everywhere you look, even in the mainstream press, someone is crying doomsday. There is also a Russian leader that says that America is on it's way to breaking down. His prediction is that it will devide into four terroritories with civil war and unrest galore. Makes a guy wish he was 20 years younger.

Nah, 20 yrs ago I was working for the man and had to follow rules. Now I'm just a crotchety old man with no people skills, too much spare time and an armory(airsoft, of course).

I know this is an old post, and I clicked on it to refresh myself with what was going on back then. I think we need to get back to looking at how things are going in this world now so we can figure out ways we need to prep for what is coming now. The articile has nothing to do with what is happening now days but just to let people know we need to look at these things that are going on now. My computer is shot so I can't get it to post from any other site but maybe others can. Worth a shot anyway. Could be we need to change some of our thinking on how we were prepping back in 2008 to what type of prepping we really need to be thinking of in today's world..

Some of what they predicted was close to coming true. Gold at that time was $812.00/ oz. While it did not hit $2000.00 the next year as they predicted, it did get to $1918.31/ oz in 2011, and the trend from 2008 was steadily upward. Gold today is $1203.50/ oz. Hard to tell what true inflation was at the time. That seems to be a well guarded secret that isn't reported. There certainly was a depression. Again, hard to tell how long, but that one seemed to affect me more than any in the past; JMHO. Here is a link for historical Gold prices: https://www.macrotrends.net/1333/his...100-year-chart

The economy that seemed to be the worst through that time was Greece, and they never got to the point of civil unrest. There were some riots and national protests, but not a full scale war or TEOTWAWKI.

The takeaway for me is to continue prepping, and keep your own house in order. Try to stay out of debt. Try to rely on the government for as little as possible, and if you are left in the lurch you are able to fend for yourself.
The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the reason is you are stupid, and make bad decisions.

Morgan you are right. I don't even know for sure what country now is going through what Greece went through. But I look back on Venezuela now and wonder if that could be us in a few years. We do need to continue to prep like we have been doing in the past but I am wondering if the way things are looking in other countries that there might be other things that we have not thought of that would help us in those preps. I for one am debt free. And do not rely on the government. Sometimes I feel there is something else we should be doing but just can't put my finger on it. Gardening, canning, raising chickens, basic homesteading skills, ways to protect ourselves and families etc. But there is that feeling that there is something out there we should be doing other than the routine things that is posted here and on other forums as well.

Strengthening survivor resilience, and general mental/spiritual health.

For strengthening resilience in the face of severe adversity, I highly recommend these books:

The Obstacle is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials Into Triumph, by John Holiday

I found this gem in the library and recognized my own thinking on almost every page, and found many more new thoughts that helped to fill in a few holes in my mindset. I took lots of notes, then bought copies of the book to give away. It's that good.

Here is an excerpt from Amazon's book description:

The book draws its inspiration from stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy of enduring pain or adversity with perseverance and resilience. Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way....to turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher.

I also recommend this for every survivor's library. :

Surviving Survival: The Art and Science of Resilience, Gonzales, Laurence

This book is important because it deals with the aftermath of a severe crisis.

For many years, I have dealt with PTSD caused by a seemingly never-ending series of SHTF episodes of many colors, ranging from personal and environmental causes to being a victim of serious crimes. I can cope beautifully during a crisis, but in the weeks and months afterward, I struggle to maintain my grip.

This book helped me to deal with the aftermath... the PTSD. I wish I had found this book decades ago... I probably would have resolved the PTSD a lot sooner.

Here is a blurb from the Amazon book description:

You have survived the crisis--trauma, disease, accident, or war--now how do you get your life back?

The survival experience changes everything because it invalidates all your previous adaptations, and the old rules don’t apply. In some cases survivors suffer more in the aftermath than they did during the actual crisis. In all cases, they have to work hard to reinvent themselves. Drawing on gripping cases across a wide range of life-threatening experiences, Laurence Gonzales fashions a compelling argument about fear, courage, and the adaptability of the human spirit.

Last, but not least: the Bible. With this, I bolster my spiritual mind and heart on a daily basis, because staying spiritually healthy has carried me through severe times better than any other skill or physical prep has ever carried me.

I have not read this one, but found it while browsing in Amazon's book section:

Stay Alive - The Survivor Mentality eShort: Learn how to control fear in situations by using the survival mindset. Kindle Edition by John McCann (Free in Amazon's Unlimited Kindle)

Bumping this thread because I could not find it in my "recent posts" or in my "subscriptions." Arrrgh. Maybe this bump will do the trick?

Grizzly, these sound like great books. Of course I know the Bible well and doing a much deeper study on Revelation and prophacy. I need to make a trip to library again to check on these. Sounds interesting.

Here is something new about our local terrorist groups in the USA. I'm talking about ANTIFA.

10/6/2018 - This weekend they changed tactics on attacking Anti ANTIFA protesters and police. They start as normal but before tension gets out of hand, they start spraying every one with silver paint and urine from plastic bottles. This was done very fast and sprayed the fluid well over 30 feet!

This happened on Saturday in Seattle and Portland on the west coast. The victims had a hard time responding trying to get this stuff out of their eyes!

So if you go out to use your first amendment rights make sure you have a face shield.

Nasty critters. I knew they were skunks, but now they're spraying like the four-legged ones, too.

What's next. I really not sure I want to know but spraying people with silver paint and urine? That's bad enough. Don't even want to know what crap they will come up with next.

Ugh. Wouldn't surprise me if they resorted to flinging that next. ^^^
