Did you see the "liquification" in Tokyo??!! Their definition isn't real consistent with the geological definition, but it sure describes what was going on.

Some areas in Ishinomaki moved southeast 17 feet (5.3 meters) and sank 4 feet (1.2 meters) lower.


Gives a good explanation of the plate mechanics that have caused this. People hurry home before 3 PM so they can be inside before high tide!
