  • Terrorists in India

Anyone watching this crap on Fox News live from India? Other then the huma tragedy, and the definate organized effort against India, I am enthralled by the weapons that the Indian military is carrying. FN/FAL's, Enflied bolt actions, BREN's and Browing Hi Powers. I even glimpsed a few Galil AK variants.

I am also facinated that they would bring in someone from the FBI-HRT to comment. Is not the HRT's policy of rescuing hostages to either shoot them or burn them out?

Per the news, the gut eaters have targeted Americans as hostages. The dude running the hotel where I am staying tonight is actually from Mubai and said it has always been a hotbed for the Islamic terrorists. He was not overly concerned.

Just an FYI, Mubai is known to us as Bombay.

I too was appaled to see police(?) units with iron sighted Enfields in such a situation! I think that after this there will be a complete re-equiping with at least used german stuff or perhaps new russian/chinese anti terrorist equipment. It seems that this was at least a company sized attack 11 major targets including a train station, hospital, police communications center and the hotels. This was a MAJOR attack, with MAJOR consequences worldwide and I'm sure some Muslims would have rather have carried it out in the USA. Thanks is due to those that stand between the US and such mayhem.

The BREN and STEN's are pretty good, and the FAL is tops, but iron sighted Enflields are not. I am seeing a lot of Galils on CNN, however, knowing the Indians, it is probably a homegrown variant of the Galil or the AK. The video is pretty shakey.

Well first-off an anti-terror unit needs optic sights and weapons that fire from a closed bolt. All the weapons I saw, except for the Enfields, looked like they had been through a war! Those PPl need a complete re-equip with new weapons concieved to pack optics from the get-go, several million dollars worth nation wide, as a starter.

Agreed. From what I am watching, firearms hygene is not a priority amongst our Indian bretheren.

Again I would say they could do a lot worse then the FAL's, but you are correct. Many of them look like Brit rejects. The Galils I saw looked to be better maintained, and are very decent rifles. I think the fellows with the Enfields are some sort of home guard militia folks.

If optics were properly installed on the Enfields, they would have an above average long range rifle. They way some of these knuckleheads were holding the FAL's I would also suggest training is in order.

Fox showed a vidieo clip of one of the sniper units which could have been Marine Commandos or Army elite forces. That was a strange weapon, it had the rear sights of a G-3, a selector switch that could have come off a m-16. The upper and lower receivers were quite flat with no detail like a foward assist or AK lever to it. It looked like a Lahti M-26 up dated to the sniper role.

The Indians have been known to make their own weapons based on others designs. It may be a homegrown variant of the Lahti of some sorts. They even make their own Enfield called the Ishapor. Quality is mediocre at best.

I think I have it figgured out, an AR70 type rifle or possibably a FN with an ambidexterous selector and different rear sight.

Being a former Brit colony, they use a lot of Brit designed rifles. The FN was the mainstay of the Brit military for a long time. I would suspect that it is an FN variant. In the 70's and 80's the Indians cozied up to the Soviets, so you do see some of the AK's and Dragunov's, but not many.

Jesse Jackson now owns the copyright on the rainbow so these guys are in trouble!
I have been seeing more HKs a PSG-1 and MP-5s. I also saw troops moving into the Taj Hotel lobby packing 50 cal size ammo cans and cases of drinking water. Apparently it has been quite a battle.

I think this is just the beginning for our Indian Bretheren.
