Favorite Post-Apocalyptic Film?

My favorite is 'Panic in the Year Zero' made around 1954. Whats yours?

"Water World" thought it was a GREAT alternative flick to the usual "dry land" scenarios:)

Since we are on Kevin Costner, I liked "The Postman" as well. Very well done IMHO

My favorite would be A Canticle for Leibowitz but for shear fun check out "The Night of the Comet."

Yes, awesome '80s movie where after the apocalypse the girls go out shopping! Everyone but our three survivors is either turned into dust or becomes a blood thirsty zombie.

I never realized untill you mentioned it but the idea of shopping on Rodeo Drive and NOT PAYING A PENNY seems to be a huge teen fantasy!

Another film I like is Trigger Effect made in the 90's I think. This is a very low key story, no special effects or shoot-outs.
The film's setting could be LA or OK City.
One day the power, cell service, TV and radio go dead, dead ,dead, dead.
The protaginists live in an upper-class suburb. After 2 days they drive into the city to see if rumors of riots are true, they manage to get away from the city and get a shotgun. Things go down hill from there.
This is not only a morality play but actually a training film of what NOT to do if SHTF.
There is no moral right and wrong in this movie. People are not wearing black and white hats, they all share the same motivation, fear and survival is the genesis of everything these PPL do. What these PPL were before the event has nothing to do with what they become during and after the event. The cause of the panic is never revealed, that is something I like. The end of the film is not an end at all but a huge moral question mark. I guess I should take this idea to a new thread

I like that movie though the sex content is needless like most hollywood pablum. The escape scene was my best....they are finally just fleeing for somewhere else with no plan and no gasoline.

kenno loved "the Trigger Effect" as well:) I got ragged on it a few times for suggesting folks watch it, but like you, I told them this was a "How not to do video":D

My wife thankfully has better sense than to throw a shotgun in the pool:mad: than Elizabeth Shue...

My favorite thing about the movie is actually seeing the desperation the actors do so well of showing.

okay, I've added the Trigger Effect to my Netflix list...

Night of the Comet is one of my favorites, just watched it the other night. Good for some laughs. If it's got undead in it, I want to see it, I'm a huge zombie movie fan.

and as such, I loved "I am Legend" with Will Smith. This guy had it together! Secured home, trained watchdog, the whole run of the city, a home laboratory. Oh, yeah, and freaky zombie-like people.

Does anyone else yell at the tv while watching these post-apocalyptic movies?

Now, I am no preparedness guru or survivalist expert, but some of the things these people do is just plain DUMB.

"Trigger Effect" Yeah, I yelled at Elizabeth Shue, called her the "b" word about the shotgun. And I liked her so much in "Adventures in Babysitting" :confused:

I just watched "Tooth and Nail" Not a bad flick. The gas has run out, and most of the people are dead (many of them due to riots). One small group lives in a hospital. Which you would think is pretty good, medical supplies, they found a cache of MREs, water. But they never secured the place. A huge building, only 10 people or so, barely any weapons. And along come the cannibals. :eek:

"Flight of the Living Dead." Like I said, I love Zombie movies. So, the apocalypse hasn't happened, but this could bring it about. C'mon, when you are stuck in an airplane with Zombies, you don't let them get near you. Yet, all these dumb people were running towards them- with the very humane gesture of trying to save the other passengers. But everyone knows that once a victim is bit, he's history anyway. So run away! And doesn't everyone know you must kill the Zombies with a head shot? don't shoot them in the guts with your last bullet.

I really liked I am Legend. I think I would have done the same thing is my dumb ass dog were killed. Especially since I have lots of one sided conversations with him a lot like Will Smith did.

V for Vandetta was a bizzare one, but ok in a wierd sort of way
The Time Machine is a fantastic one. But you have to watch the one from the 60's. The remake was not as good.

I watched one the other day, but do not remember the name. They basically doped everyone with drugs to keep them from having any emotions due to mankind almost destroying itself by war. The only crime was one called "Sense Crime" where people would protect things like puppies, art works and flashy items. The whole movie was based on a plot to overthrow the government and destroy the company that made the emotion blocking drugs. I wish I could remember the name of the movie, because it was worth watching.

Oh, man......as far as sci-fi series go, "V" was the at the very top of the shizznit list........I remember gluing myself to the tube in the '80s during that series.....good call....it wasn't your typical bug-out scenario, but it was still a very cool story.
