Atlas Shrugged is required reading. The same also applies to The Fountainhead.

I devoured that book. It completely changed the way I saw the world, I went from being a poor lazy unwed mother (a moocher) to a productive member of society. It helped me to realize that I WAS part of the problem and only I could change that and become a creator. I have given that book to a great number of "friends" & family unfortunately the great majority prefer to get their entertainment and information from American Idol and TMZ, why bother learning something boring when you can learn something exciting like what Robert Downey Jr. did last night?

I read it years ago. I kind of "shrugged" off the idea that the boys in Washington would ever be so bold and blatant in the government takeovers described in the book. I was wrong. They aren't afraid of us-we the people-anymore and they haven't been for awhile.

When I first read Atlas Shrugged I was frightened but doutbtful that such a thing could really happen. Boy, have my eyes been opened. The writing's on the wall for sure on this one.

Howdy, slowz1k!
I have read Ayn Rand's works since I was age 15 and finally got to read Atlas Shrugged in full back in college, which was over 20 years ago! Ayn Rand is a brilliant writer and her works opened up whole worlds for me!

I finally got a copy of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". I had heard so much about this book, but never found the time to attack it. Any one else here ever read it?
For those that have read it, you know why I posted this in "current events"... For those that haven't, "Atlas Shrugged" was first published in 1957, but the political agenda described in the book is almost exactly what we're seeing in Washington DC today.
It's a long read (Over 1100 pages... about the same as the stimulus bill ) but worth it.
