  • Just a little help needed...

I, like practically everyone else, get my news from quite a few sources so I thought I'd ask everyone here for a few other ideas on where to get "real" news from.

I'll list the sources I currently use to save everyone from listing the same sources...

    CNN
    NY Times
    CNet News
    BBC
    NPR
    USA Today
    Watching America
    Drudge Report
    Prison Planet
    TV News Lies
    Black Listed News

Even though I may not like some of the news organizations listed above, I still check them to see what they're saying too.

I enjoy being able to comment about various topics so does anyone have a few other sources you'd like to contribute?

Perhaps this might also help some of the new-comers here as well?

            My home page is www.freerepublic.com

I discovered FR 11 years ago during the Clinton years from a link off of Drudge - which had been my home page - pretty soon I quit going to Drudge.

When I first went there, I sat and cried reading the comments because in our PC world I thought I was a rogue. We really DO surround them!

They link to stories from all over the world and then discuss them. They have a survivalist's ping list, too.

People are always astonished when they discuss something just hitting the news that I'd read the day or week before.

I was on the live thread there when the planes flew into the WTC, the reports from all over the country were ... incredible. Give it a look!

Pioneer, you seem like a good person, so I will give you my two cents, even though I feel like a broken record telling folks where I stand on this many times over.

I am half asleep so I hope this comes out correctly!

I grew up a "news junkie," I'd read any newspaper you put in front of me cover to cover, same with any news magazine, would glue my eyes to everything from CNN to local news.

I also spent many years in the Army and working in law enforcement. I developed a sense that I had seen it all , that nothing could surprise me, and I knew that a small degree of the MSM (mainstream media) news was either purposefully misleading or completely fabricated lies.

Boy was I naive!! In 2007 I entered the world of federal law enforcement, on the intelligence side of the fence. Let me tell you, my previous perceptions were so completely off-base that it was like getting punched in the face when I had to adjust to what I had just discovered was reality. I thought that the intense psychological testing and background checking required for the job were just to weed out people who had shady backgrounds and could not operate under pressure. Little did I know that I would be exposed to a reality so far removed from what I had spent my life seeing, that it quickly became obvious that the psychological element of the job was more along the lines of realizing what people would not be able to handle reality once they got on the job. And believe me, even as far as the first couple months actually on the job, I saw people quitting because they could not handle the psychological stress. The quitters were not young, inexperienced people, rather they were like the rest of us, people with college degrees, years of military and years of law enforcement experience.

My employment has been verified by people on this site by reaching me at a published phone number during my work hours, and I am not "talking out of my arse" and puffing things out of proportion.

Anyhow...what I learned in my "reality check" forever changed my news habits. Since then I have almost never picked up a newspaper or news magazine. Why? Well, let me tell you, anything the MSM produces should be viewed as comedy entertainment only, that's how far removed it is from reality. CNN, NBC, ABC, Fox News, etc etc etc....all should be trusted and looked upon for the truth about as much as you would trust your local town drunk for the truth.

I can guarantee, from experience, that in 99.999% of the cases, any MSM news story is either: a) A complete and total 100% lie and fabrication, or b) Telling one fact, perhaps 0.01% of the truth, and stretching it to make a story while ignoring the rest of the picture. Honestly, I can not think of one single news story in the recent past that was portrayed anywhere near truthfully by the MSM.

So...bottom line...if you want the truth and reliable news, best advice I could say is to "read between the lines" and take all possible news sources into account. You will start to notice certain media outlets picking up on details that others do not, and vice-versa. I am not overly familiar with many "alternative" news sources, so I can not tell you who to trust (wish I did know, however). Check other places like veterans' forums (I belong to several and it's very interesting to read commentary on the news), political activism sites (though they slant the truth in their favor-- they may actually be privy to the truth and willing to mention it, unlike MSM), etc etc etc.

Thank you Skyowl's Wife. I'll be looking there and possibly changing my homepage as well. That's the basic idea of why I even asked about this. My homepage has been yahoo news to gather the bits and pieces that I find are left out from other news sources and then it's almost an eternal journey through the various other sites.

What an unexpected compliment! Thank you. I was never in Law Enforcement or the Military so I will not lead anyone to believe I was or that I'm entirely knowledgeable in those fields. The reason I never joined the Military was not because I wouldn't fight for my Country, but rather because I had a problem with everything I was told just prior to joining. Authority issues. I was in the martial arts at a young age and even with the strenuous discipline and self control I was taught, I was still aware of an attitude that would have landed me in either the military hospital or in their prison.

For example, had I been told to, "Get down and give me 50!" My first response would have been, "After you!" I am and have been, for the majority of my life, highly competitive in anything I do and had someone seen this in my youth, and found a way to get me to understand things back then, Just Wow! I have often regretted not joining the Military more times that I can count because now, much later in life and hopefully a bit wiser, most of everyone I know associate with and call "Good friends" and family members, are retired LE, CIA and Military. I am not a member of the VFW, nor the VA but do attend more meetings then most because I am always invited to do so.

With that said, it becomes clear on how I came to know about mainstream media. I enjoy reading "real" news in the early morning, as probably everyone else does before I start my day. I have been known to get sidetracked by some of the more comical and non-important issues and news pages right down to the pet of the week kind of things. "Real" news is just easier to read without having to read between the lines all the time. Your bottom line comment was more that correct. I have been told those exact words over and over. I have no doubt about your credentials, based on your words.

To give a simple understanding as to why I didn't choose to go into LE - I have several members of my family in various departments in LE and could not follow in their footsteps based on the meaning and history of Law Enforcement. In the early days, our police forces were called Peace Keepers. To serve and Protect. In my youth (A long time ago) I can recall making many phone calls to the local PD asking if there was an available officer who could give me a ride home from a bar and keep an eye on my vehicle during any various times someone would be in the area. It beat getting a DUI and in the small town, the cabs stopped running so to me, this was my best possible choice. Public Intoxication would not have looked good for my reputation even in those days. When the times began to change and in my opinion, it became a new method for the bigger cities to start enforcing various laws when there was no victim involved, I saw this trickled down into the smaller towns as well. Such as speeding at 2AM, not stopping completely for a stop sign after dark when nobody else was on the roads and the like. Things were beginning to get crazy. The laws changed enough that a victim was not needed or required and the State would pick up the case. Looking back, this was probably needed to some degree with the growing populations and idiots we have in this country but in my youth, I opposed it and wholeheartedly. With over 307 million people in the United states now, I couldn't even imagine being in LE these days! I'm a retired nightclub owner, among other things and have hired many off-duty LE officers to make a presence for the minimum of the 3 hours required to assist me in keeping things peaceful at closing time. This was over 12 years ago. I used to follow the club's news after I sold it and it was probably like everywhere else, more crimes, more drunks and gangs acting upon the urges of alcohol combined with their pea-shooters they carried to give them the self confidence (or so they would like to think) getting everyone all out of control.

So to sum it all up - in many aspects, my hat comes off to a lot of our LE officers who are trying to do a job that most people could not do. My hat always comes off for our Military. Retired or Active.

                          Anyway, Thank you Sir.
