    Obama declares swine flu a national emergency

    WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency.

    The White House on Saturday said Obama signed a proclamation that would allow medical officials to bypass certain federal requirements. Officials described the move as similar to a declaration ahead of a hurricane making landfall.

    Swine flu is more widespread now than it's ever been and has resulted in more than 1,000 U.S. deaths so far.

    Health authorities say almost 100 children have died from the flu, known as H1N1, and 46 states now have widespread flu activity.

    What now?

    I was coming to post this, too. Thx, Puppies.

    My question is, what EXACTLY does it mean when they say that it allows "medical officials to bypass certain federal requirements."

      Isn't that something? They now don't have enough vaccines to go around...propaganda to make people think they need it and make them want it...... reverse psychology.

        The move authorizes federal officials to waive some requirements in dealing with the H1N1 virus.

        In a letter sent to Congress reporting the move, Obama wrote, “the rapid increase in illness across the Nation may overburden health care resources and that the temporary waiver of certain standard Federal requirements may be warranted in order to enable U.S. health care facilities to implement emergency operations plans."

        "...section 1135 of the Social Security Act..."

        Section 1135, subsection 3:

        (3) actions under section 1867 (relating to examination and treatment for emergency medical conditions and women in labor) for—

        (A) a transfer of an individual who has not been stabilized in violation of subsection (c) of such section if the transfer arises out of the circumstances of the emergency;

        (B) the direction or relocation of an individual to receive medical screening in an alternative location

        (i) pursuant to an appropriate State emergency preparedness plan; or

        (ii) in the case of a public health emergency described in subsection (g)(1)(B) that involves a pandemic infectious disease, pursuant to a State pandemic preparedness plan or a plan referred to in clause (i), whichever is applicable in the State;

        See Section (c) for explanation of transfers.

          I've also read that it waves some of the HIPPA requirements - so fedgov can be nosy about your medical records.

          This will kill people. Those who don't want BO's buddies in their information will avoid going to the doctor when they get sick.

            NAtional Emergency

            Well some of you might have read the thread i started MArch 2009. This thread was entitled The 76 Year Long State of ANtional Emergency. This has lots of things that will surprise you if you havent read it and if you have then you can see the possible ramifications of the current crisis. There are many things that can be done during a national emergency but most people are not aware of them.

            Might also want to check out the thread Beware the Gold Fringed Flag. Sort of goea along with the first thread in a twisted way,

              Oh, you mean the "Imperial Admiralty" flag? The one in every federal courtroom? Hmmmmm...........the one that coincides with the fact that D.C. isn't "technically" U.S. soil, but has singular sovereignty?.....hmmmmmmmmmmm...........
