A little late, but here it is. At 3:15am Pacific time NASA will be literally shooting the moon. Check out the full article here.

I wonder how many taxpayer $$ was wasted on this, America is in the worst recession in many years , and we're looking for water on the moon????......I say we fire our current goverment and replace them with like minded folks such as ourselves! NASA , in my opinion is just another example of big goverment waste. :mad:Every Day , Is A Bonus.

Most intelligent folks would have first watched Armageddon or Deep Impact to see how Hollywood would do it and then I'm sure, a do-it-yourself rig would have been less costly and more efficient
More info of these types of rigs are available all over the internet, I just picked 1 at random http://www.deeprock.com/HD/index.html
I do agree with rsanders comment too!Being unprepared is giving up!

My personal opinion regarding bombing the moon has a lot to do with the theory behind what happened to the moon in the movie "Time Machine". Scientists only theorize what might happen when they shoot an oversized bullet at the south pole of the moon.
I personally find this venture somewhat entertaining. The moon has no tectonic plates which allow for movement of its surface, which causes me to wonder if a blast such as this will work as intended, or if it will cause surface cracks and ultimately cause other damage to the moon, resulting in tide differentials and global malfunctions here on Earth.
I'm smiling, comfortably, waiting to see what happens, as I laugh at the stupidity of those who believe themselves to be highly intellegent."Reject the basic assumptions of civilization, especially the importance of material possessions." "The things you own end up owning you"-Tyler Durden

If the moon does not have tectonic plates, would'nt a direct hit cause a rather large plume of moon dust over its surface? What supposably happened to the last planet that occured on? I am with you Vinsinedrops, this is merely stupidity in motion. Are we the cause of our own demise?

I sit, smiling coyly, as I read different news stories after having watched the live feed from NASA of an empty rocket hull slamming into the moon surface, and shortly thereafter, the camera itself.
Where was the huge plume? Giant laughter from my belly. Isn't it obvious that if you slam a hollow object against a solid one, the hollow object will collapse in on itself, absorbing most of the impact?
Apparently nobody witnessed a 6.6 mile plume of debris, because it didn't take place. They're mission was a successful failure in that regard. What's next for our NASA smart people...I know, let's try landing there instead."Reject the basic assumptions of civilization, especially the importance of material possessions."
