i guess there wasn't enough people calling(i have tried at all hours for the past 2 days and kept getting a busy ring or all circuits are busy).i hope it doesn't get trough the senate!!!!!!!i am starting a new job on monday(leaseing a tractor trailer)and starting to realy get nervous.

Manufacturing plants and some power plants emit a lot of pollution, it is my assumption that the amount these companies pay for the permits necessary will undoubtedly be passed forward onto us, the consumers, in hiked prices.

Would I be correct in that assumption? And, if so, how is that supposed to energize the economy?

You are correct in your assumptions. Not only that, but the amount of "carbon" saved will not amount to anything.
The worst part of the whole thing is the carbon credit scam that will be going on with the politicians getting all the benefits. It's a government scam, it's a tax on all of us. The wonderful jobs created will be temporary jobs, no perminent well paying jobs.

I took a carbon foot print test, found out that our footprint is almost half the average for the country. Despite that, my energy related expenses will still be going up as much as everyone elses. The government would have us believe that our costs will only increase about $175 a year, but the researchers say it will be more like $1500.

That's what a country in a reccession needs...more taxes!

Define "a lot". Everything emits SOME pollution. They have mandated so many filters on power plants that even they don't emit "a lot" of pollution any more.

Cap and trade goes like this....

Carbon emitting businesses are told that they can only emit x tons of carbon dioxide a year and are sold an "emissions permit" for that x tons of CO2 a year. They pay the government for those permits. Over time, their allowed x gets smaller. This is the Cap.

Since some businesses will have an easier time reducing their released CO2, they may have extra tons of "credit" left at the end of their year. They sell these extra "permits" back to the fedgov. The fedgov auctions these extra permits off to other users who couldn't reduce their emissions down to what they were allowed. Fedgov has a steady stream of income. This is the Trade.

Now, how does all of this affect us?

Business WILL NOT take the money for these permits out of their pockets so the price of whatever goods they produce will GO UP.

- Businesses use electricity, their costs will go up, that will be passed to us.
- Businesses use gas for anything that needs heat (cooking, baking enamels, etc.), their costs will go up, that will be passed to us.
- Businesses buy components to make their products. The components will cost more because THOSE companies also use electricity and gas, those increases will be passed to us.
- Refining gas/fuel is a BIG time CO2 emitter, you can look for 4-5 dolllar a gallon gas again. All of the goods produced need to be moved to market, those costs will go up and be passed on to us.
- You heat your house, odds are you use gas. Your costs will go up.
- You use electricity. Your costs will go up.

So. EVERYTHING you buy will cost more. Your basic costs to keep your house going will cost more.

Watch for some Big Business firms to get lots of extra intial credits. They will sell their "extra" back to the fedgov, pocketing LOTS of bucks.

Watch for a BUNCH of little guys to never have enough and have to buy more. They will never be able to compete with the big guys.

This is one more way for BO to funnel our money to his camaign donors. It's a win-win for the asshat. Fedgov gets lots of bucks from the intial permits and more in auction fees when the little guys buy what the big guys sell back. Fedgov gets more bucks, his buddies get more bucks, we get more oppressed.
