Subjects wanted for DOCUMENTARY film about SURVIVALISM

Hello Xcolonists,

I'm a documentary filmmaker producing a short film about the survivalist movement, looking for subjects to interview in the NYC area. The film is already set to screen at a film event in Brooklyn this Summer, and might also be picked up for TV, the web and/or festivals.

Basically I'm looking for people who are convinced that the world as we know it is coming to an end, and are somehow actively preparing for this. Perhaps you're becoming more self-sufficient, learning about sustainable farming, wilderness survival techniques and how to live off the grid? Or maybe you're stockpiling food, fuel, medications and so on?

Although I want to highlight both the eco-minded set and those who are arming themselves for the apocalypse, at this point in time I am especially looking for survivalists and so-called doomers, those who believe that peak oil, political unrest, the economic crisis and/or disease will cause the collapse of civilization, and whomever isn't prepared will be left behind. If any of the above resonates with you, I'd love to talk with you!

Because I'm fully aware that some of these issues can be seen as controversial, and not everyone is comfortable sharing their views, I will treat all responses with confidentiality. Naturally you should be willing to be interviewed on camera, but we can discuss ways to shield your identity, if necessary. And by responding to me, of course you are under no obligation to participate!

I should also add that this will not be a propaganda film and there is no political (or any other) agenda. My aim is to make an informative and objective, non-judgmental film, perhaps dispel some common myths, misunderstandings and stereotypes along the way.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

1. It's not a movement, just people preparing themseleves for all types of situations, more like common sense, or going back to basics

2. Most don't think the world is going to end, more like a natural disaster, or fuel shortages, or war, etc

Really sounds like your reaching here, and trying to make survival and disaster preperation something it's not.

I never said it was a "movement", and yes, I realize there are probably many different types of people who are preparing themselves in various ways for what the future holds. I would like to find out more about what they are doing to prepare, and why. To you, it might just be common sense. To many, it is still unknown.

I actually said I am looking for "people who are convinced that the world as we know it is coming to an end". To be clear, I am not looking to interview "end of timers", that is something completely different.

I am not fishing, nor am I a troll. Yes, I was on another site looking for the same. It was actually suggested by one of the moderators that I post on this forum, as it has more members.

If the request is sincere and would be portrayed as most of us are here, hard-working, good citizens and not some strange, paranoid people whom others like making fun of, then it would be okay, I guess.

I prepare because I hate to be caught off guard. We had an ice storm come through here in '94, which left us without electricity for near on 2 weeks. I was pregnant with youngest daughter at the time. No electricity, no heat, no food, stores were closed due to no power, etc. The bad thing about the ice storm here, is that it hit, did the damage, and temps were back up in the 60s the next day, so keeping frozen food outside was not really an option for us.

My husband and I swore to never be caught off guard again. ;) Since we are rural, we are the last on the list of priorities of the power companies to restore power and that is just the way it is here.

I'm sure the end of the world will come, though I doubt it will be in my time, and I say that because I am a Christian and believe the Bible. However, the world did end as we knew it, for a time, which was long enough for us to decide never to be caught unprepared again. I think (hope) that Katrina changed the way a lot of people think about their well-being and protection (by) the government. We must not depend on them (government) and should become more self-sufficient, just my opinion. Maybe if more folks would stand on their own 2 feet, America would not have a lot of the problems it now has to deal with. Again, just my opinion.

I am not one who wants to see chaos or a collapse of society, I like my way of life, modern technology just fine. I am also glad that there are social nets in place for people who have run into hard times, though I don't believe it should become a part of their permanent income or way of life. Just like any good thing, unfortunately, it can be abused and there are many who know the ins and outs of the system and can take wrongful advantage of it.

I don't want to be a subject in a documentary, but since you seem to be sincerely asking for points of view, I am supplying mine.

I love life, most people ;), and enjoy most everything I do. I am not a social recluse, perhaps a bit weird in that I do want to be strong and independent versus today's standards, but mostly I am just a normal person with hopes, dreams, plans and goals. I have raised my children to be givers and not takers. I have taught them to make decisions and not wait on someone else to make them for them. They are strong-willed, good people. Of that, I can be proud.

So basically, my family prepares because we love each other and DON'T want to see bad things happen. There is nothing stockpiled that is not used or eventually consumed. Just average people with a desire to not become dependent on a social net if/when something bad happens.

What irks me is that you morons are actualy taking this seriously, a legitimate 'filmmaker' would have posted thier Facebook addy and thier work posted on Youtube in the 3rd sentance of thier 1st post. If nothing else you have provided enough material for a 'Documentary' whose POV is that "Survivalists" are indeed loons.
