  • A Year Without Summer?

Did you know that, on Monday, 8 June, there was snow in Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas? One Wyoming town got a FOOT of snow . Then I read this:
10 Jun 09 – AccuWeather's Joe Bastardi talks of the “colder-than-normal weather across the northern tier of the country,” says reader Charles Patrick. Bastardi also concludes that “areas from the northern Plains into the Northeast will have a "year without a summer."

If you also remember that Kansas lost about 80% of her wheat crop and the Texas panhandle losing a lot to the late freeze, expect those bread prices to go up.

The article mentions clear through 2012.

I read that wife! I have to say that here in the northeast, it's pretty much true. We've gotten high temps, but they have been far and few between. It's also been very wet...not particularly bad rain, but damp and wet almost daily. I'm not going to be seeing a great garden this year if it doesn't dry up and get sunny. I have to go replace those peppers I lost, but I'm thinking I'll pick up some more brassicas (broc, spprouts etc) also.

I don't want to hear about man made weather stuff!!! I just read "Category 7" a while back and it was scary what is out there. It's worrysome that the wheat has been hit so hard, maybe I should be putting more into wheat flour.

Northern lights are on my "bucket list". *sigh* May never get up there to see them if TSHTF. There won't BE northern lights until the sun wakes up. I have this http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/...e/mdi_igr/512/ on my "quick links" page and look at it each morning.

Along with the wheat crops I wonder about corn that feeds the cows and if it will impact the price of meat and dairy. This along with the tax they are considering on cows because of their methane production concerns me. I noticed today at the grocery store that a carton of 18 eggs had gone from 95cents to a dollar seventy-eight.

Milk, too. Canned milk has gone from 60-something to 90-something.

In Illinois at least in Central IL we've had so much rain most of the farmers aren't even in the fields yet. My garden has been so wet I have only got a few things in. I am not getting a full garden this year. I have a bad feeling about this.

Same here in NC, last year we couldn't get rain. This can't get it to stop. It's rainning now. Up the road in Greensboro they had 8" in 1 hour.

                        Fellow Survivalists,

After today's humid, hot, sticky weather in Gastonia, NC (and, mind you, it's not even officially Summer,) I say: "No Summer? Do you really mean it?"

                        :D ;)

                              So far so good

Well, here in North Carolina I can't speak for everybody but my garden is doing fine with the help of the herbal pagan and my cat along with my mantis tiller that finally returned after seven years of being on loan to a friend. well see the pics and let me know what you think...
