  • Commercial

This weekend I was working on my storage organization when my wife called me in to see something on tv. It was a commercial stating that everyone should have at least a 72 hour emergency kit for each member of the family. This was shown in central Arkansas. Since then I have seen three different comercials with this same theme. One of them even stated that we should have our homes stocked and ready for emergencies. This is scary- the media and or state is now stating we should get prepared?!

FEMA has always said we should be prepared and has had specific info dependant on the area of the country you live in.

IIRC, they recommend 2 weeks of supplies (including water) in some parts of the country.

Lil Bear, we have been viewing those commercials for at least a year now in our area, probably longer. I think after Katrina is when FEMA went into high gear and decided to alert everyone to the possibility of being on your own for a while before help could get to you.

It all started with "Have a 3-day supply of water and food on hand," to, as Wife said, a 2-week supply in some areas.

They have had commercials for an escape plan if you live in the Pine Bluff arsenal area. This was just new to me.

The escape plans is a new one on me. I guess it just depends on location as to what is being broadcast. It is odd that they are just starting to show up in your area.

Seems like everyone has forgotten the Cold War when you were supposed to build your own blast shelter and stock it with food.

I know I'm dating myself, but I remember "duck and cover" in grade school.

Yep, it was either under your desk or out in the hallway for us.

I remember well, the "duck and cover drill", and the jingle that went with it! Then there was the bomb shelters...now we're back to all of that! It's sad when people have to be told to have 3 days of food in their house!

Wow, you brought back my own memories of those drills! We may be older, but definitely better!

Trying to interject some comedy, but can't since I don't have adequate post count to post links... Google search "South Park Duck Cover Volcano" for a funny take on "duck and cover"...

Seriously, if you can't stand back and laugh at yourself then you need help.

Or snugged up to a wall under a window if your room had windows.

Oh how I remember those days. We were so young and clueless. LOL Wow, that was so long ago.

I am glad they had those radiation proof desks for us to get under. I knew that lead paint would come in handy!
