Did anyone see this interview last night?

James Kunstler wrote a book called World Made By Hand

Whichh basically talks about us having to start over when oil runs out in less than 30-40 years.

The fact that nobody even knows how to farm or grow their own food etc

Very interesting book, and an interesting guy

    .
I definitely think we need another Trade embargo like 1812.
The British wanted to hurt the US by blocking all foreign Trade to the US, however it worked in reverse ... the Americans started manufacturing products, growing crops themselves and the end results made the US more self-sufficient and not so dependant on foreign trade.

Wal-Mart use to brag about "We only buy Made in America" ... that's gone and we need it back.

Drilling for oil in the US will keep us in oil for 200+ years.

So we have 200 years to figure out what to do next.

got to keep the zombies out.

      Well.... :(

Unfortunately thta's not true we can't even produce half of the oil we require today

      Oil - production:
      8.322 million bbl/day (2005 est.)
      Oil - consumption:
      20.8 million bbl/day (2005 est.)

not to mention the % of oil needed increases yearly/

          Dear bug_out,

I recall reading that Victory Gardens existed in World War I and World War II. They are a wise idea, albeit we don't need government telling us that.

The world isn't going to run out of oil in the next 40 years. I have a relative who made his money in oil exploration--unfortunately, I have gotten none of it...ha, ha. He was telling me twenty years ago that there's enough oil under the surface of the planet to last us all for centuries, even with the projected increase in demand. He said the same thing to me last month when I spoke with him. Oil companies might have to drill a lot deeper or devise new drilling technologies to get at the stuff, but he has no fear that anybody will run out of oil any time before we're colonising Mars.

If oil is so limited, why the heck are all these dipshit politicians in such a hurry to drill in the U.S. for it? I hear this crap about "our dependence on foreign oil" and "the stranglehold of the Middle East" as justification. More propaganda and more garbage.

If there's a finite amount of oil in the world and we're all about to run out in a mere three or 4 decades, then it would make sence to use up all the foreign oil first, not our own.

All this oil business is a bunch of fearmongering. The supply of oil isn't decreasing; the price is just going up, and the only reason it's going up is so the gummint doesn't have to explain the rapid devaluation of the dollar.

As long as the natural process that creates coal and petroleum is still taking place, as long as living things are dying, decomposing, and sinking their Carbon constituents into the Earth's intense heat and pressure, there will always be coal and petroleum, so clearly that is not the problem. And there is Uranium to last for millions of years, especially if we use breeder reactor nuclear technology, so that's not a problem either.

The real problem is that we have Eco-Wacko governmental policies that forbid us from tapping these natural resources, all because some Unabomber wannabes value the lives of snail darters and caribou higher than human lives. These are the policies that make the United States increasingly dependent on the likes of the Islamofascists in O.P.E.C. and dictators like Hugo Chavez.

I say drill ANWR now and for that matter, drill my back yard if that's what it takes to get this nation energy independent!
