    New face from NH

    Hello everyone, from southern NH. After the recent ice storm we had over here I realized how helpless I was to natural and man made disasters. I have begun a list of things to collect for surviveability in such a situation. The main hurdle right now is finding the right mode of transportation for a situation such as this. Its hard trying to prepare while in school with a part time job, with no money.

    I spent 6 years active duty Army as a Cavalry Scout. I deployed to Iraq twice and am no stranger to combat and chaos. I am in school to be a mechanic and will be done in 8 weeks. As soon as I'am working full time I hope to step up my preperations.

    Howdy, ReconGaelach! It's good to have someone from the "Live Free Or Die" State on XColony!

    If snow and ice gets as thick in NH as it does in the NC mountains, your best bet is snow-chains and/or a vehicle with 4x4. And inside of your vehicle, I would keep a small version of your world, with enough to drink, eat, shelter yourself, warm yourself, entertain yourself, dispose of waste, and communicate for help, for at least 3 days.

      Welcome, Recon....thanks for your service. Poke around, and don't be afraid to ask questions....you'll find civilian preparation a helluva lot more efficient than military requisition chains, I guarantee it..;)

          Welcome! I love ice and snow storms. My favorite winter sport! Great time to test your skills and see if your equipment really works. We don't get a lot of real bad weather here in SC, but we do occasionally. In fact, snow is headed our way tonight. It was 59 this morning when I got up and it has been dropping ever since. 34 right now and headed to upper 20s by morning.
          JUST CURIOUS? PRUNES ARE DEHYDRATED PLUMS. SO WHERE DOES PRUNE JUICE COME FROM?

            Thanks for the salutes guys. I wont be shy. Just starting out formulating a plan so Ill need some advice I am sure. The military is the most organized mess. Nothing like it. I miss it in so many ways.

              Yeah ice storms really make you think about what you can do better next time one comes calling ;)

                RG I am in southern maine, We lost power in that ice storm for more then a week also. As for a mode of tranport. I us 4x4 truck I carry in it farmers jack, come a longs, chains, straps,wire rope, block and tackle, chainsaw and woodmans pal. To get to a main road during the storm I had to cut, drag and winch alot of downed limbs and trees. So between ice and the snow we got last year and the way this year is shapping up storm wise a 4X4 is the best choice. I just wish I had tire chains and a power winch but those are low on my list of must haves. Thank you for your service. Glad to see another person from my AO.
