  • Another from NC

    Hi folks,

I'm Scott from Advance NC a small town outside Winston-Salem. I have been thinking and trying to plan ahead for WTSHTF ever since i read The Survivalist series by Jerry Ahern as a young adult. Even though i think the chances for a Global Nuclear exchange are probably slim in today's world the premis from his other series of books The Defenders i think is highly likely.

I was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years and have taken several wilderness training courses offered by these organizations over the last few years. My family is in denial of the downfall of the US so i try to be as prepared as a i can for them as well.

I look forward to exchanging information and ideas with all of you and hopefully will learn several things that can help both me and you.

    Welcome Aboard!

I read a few of the Survivalist series in the middle and late 80's and read all of them in Ebook form on my palm pilot in the late 90's... it gets OUT THERE, but is a interesting series that I believe influenced many SHTF writers today...

I thought it was funny how Jerry Ahern referred to those Glocks as cheap ineffective copied and used by the chineese in the book...

Also found it interesting that Jerry Ahern resurrected the Detonics line of pistols... Looking back at it now, it seems like a an infomercial for some great gear

Still was a great series that could get you pointed in the right mindset

Look forward to reading your posts in the future:)

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.

The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

I have books 1-7 on CD's. Graphic Audio did a darn good job of making them into a great book on tape with lots of cool sound effects and the Ruskie invaders even have authentic slavic accents. I have enjoyed them.

I too read them many years ago, but enjoy them more on tape (CD).

IIRC those 1st 7 are the probably the best before it goes all Star Trekkish ;)

Would love to have a copy of those... I take it they are out of print???

          Howdy, Fight or Flight!

Perhaps a global nuclear exchange may not be likely, but a scenario like Robert Ferrigno's Prayers for the Assassin could be possible.

One thing is for certain: Anything NBC used after Hiroshima or Nagasaki used in a conflict is going to qualify as TEOTWAWKI in one form or another.

I cannot believe I've finally heard of someone else reading Prayers for the Assassin ... I read it a few years ago, while in recovery froma knee op. Probably one of the more likely scenarios ITRW, if you ask me...and damn good reading.

Mine are in CD format. Books on tape. Not sure if they are out of print, but I know you can still buy them on line for $20.00 a piece.

Welcome aboard fight or flight. I have a sister in Advance and I live in Albemarle. Unfortunately, I'm gettin to the age of "flee or pee" as opposed to fight or flight. Look forward to sharing with you.
