  • Hello from the Live Free or Die State (NH)

    Hello,

I'm new here and not one who usually posts to these boards. But I wanted to join and so I feel it is only right to introduce myself to the present members.

I am a born and bred New Hampshire native and proud of it. I am a Veteran and proud of it, even though I hated being in the military. And yes I have an honorable logged on my DD214.

I'm not really sure what any of you folks would like to know so I'll just tell you all a little about me.

I am a technical writer for the communications field. It's not glamorous or anything but it pays the bills. Before I was in the military I was a blue-collar worker. When I got out I was unable to work in the trades due to physical problems incurred while in the military. So I went to college on a Chapter 31 and got a degree in something I loved (English) and have been able to make a go of it. I know it's not for everyone and frankly.. I don't care. It works for me and that's all that matters to me.

I'm not much of a people person my saying on this is "People suck. Not mean people, not stupid people... just people. They all suck until they prove to me on a one-on-one basis that they don't suck." At that point I will take their back any day. I am fiercely loyal to my friends and anyone I have determined doesn't suck. For the most part I don't trust people. It's why I love animals. At least with them I know how they are going to act.

As for preparedness, my saying on this is "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it." This does have limits however. I know I can't carry everything on my back so there are levels of need.

I am an avid outdoors-man and love hunting and fishing. I also love shooting guns and riding motorcycles. As for bikes, I don't care what you ride, I like Harleys and I don't care if you don't. I like to ride alone or with one or two others at most. There are only a few people I really enjoy riding with, there's a number of reasons for this but I won't go into it here. As for firearms, I am a .308 and .45 (1911) guy for the most part. I have a number of both. I like to try and keep my ammo types and magazine types to a minimum. I have recently been lured into the realm or AR-15s. I really like them, and definitely see a place for them in any survival or battle situation. My first choice, however when SHTF is going to be my M1A NM and 1911 Long-slide. I'm looking for a Marlin Camp Carbine 45 (just in case anyone here has one to sell or trade). I have a bunch of other stuff in the safe as well and a bunch of the stuff that goes in them to make them go bang. If and when SHTF I have a bunch of folks, whose wives don't want them to have guns, coming here and so I feel the need to be supplied.

When me and my buddy go up north every year for an annual fishing trip we try to hone at least one skill that will be useful i.e setting a figure four dead-fall trap, starting a fire with sticks, glass, sparks, whatever, building emergency shelter, things like that. We have an outfitters tent with wood-stove and so we can up and move out pretty quick and be set up to endure pretty long.

Lastly, this may be the longest post you see from me. I don't normally post to these boards, but time will tell, maybe this one is different. I usually will sit off in the corner in the shadows and just watch and listen. I found a long time ago I can learn a lot more by shutting up.

Thanks for your time and consideration, and for allowing me entrance to this forum.

BTW.....are you at all familiar with the FreeState Project going on there? I enjoy watching the Porcupines battle for their right to open-carry and govern themselves constituionally.

Dave Ridley is a freak! ;)

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.
