  • Howdy from Asheville...

Found this place through a series of links which started at Carolina Shooters Forum.
My interests include firearms, and I'm trying to get started in reloading.
I've always been facinated with survivalist topics, and with the current world state of affairs, I'm taking things more seriously now.
I enjoy fishing and hunting, although I haven't hunted seriously for several years. Getting equipped for coyote hunting now.
Boating...kinda goes with the fishing thing, but we have a pontoon, canoe, and several kayaks. Also aquired a shallow draft 22' cabin boat last fall that we have used to travel the Tennessee River, and hope to do coastal tours aboard.
Also into motorcycles. I have a Land Speed Race team, and we have a blast doing that, but I also enjoy dual sport and off road riding.
Love living here in the mountains of western NC!

Welcome aboard snal, Xcolony is a great place with a bunch of folks with a great broad knowledge base on all things S&P!

I used to do a lot of sea kayaking on local lakes and rivers, and even did a round trip, open water crossing of Ocracoke inlet once (would love to do that one again).

Cool on the motorcycles, I had a KLR-650 I did thousands of miles of riding on. Loved that bike but I had to use it on a trade to get a new car :( Kinda hard carrying more than 2 people on a bike if you know what I mean ;)

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.

The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

I'm a Sportster nut, but my all time favorite bike was a KLR 650! Sold it last fall to help pay for our dream boat.
I kayak quite a bit with my race team (racing didn't give us enough time together). We typically do 3 day trips. We've done Capers Island, the Shenandoah River, Mosquito Lagoon Fla., and several really nice trips on the Lumber River from the NC line on down.
I have a camper at Lake James, right where the north fork of the Catawba River comes in. We keep the pontoon and a couple of kayaks down there.

IIRC that is on the McDowell County Side (or near it?)? Kayaked and Canoed a lot around the Linville River side (Linville Bottoms) as well as the Catawba River where it leaves Lake James. John's River is a fun float as well :)

Yep!...we can paddle up the north fork about 3/4 mile before it gets too slim. I like to paddle my sit on top up there and drift back while fishing.
We put in the main branch near the bridge on hwy 70 just west of walmart...that's about a 6 mile paddle back down to the lake. Amazingly remote to be where it is.
The Lumber is by far my favorite so far. Acid stained water, but great fishing, and during normal water levels there's an abundance of sugar-white sandy beaches.
