An ex-coworker of mine recommended I check this sight out. So glad she did. It's somehow comforting to know that there are others out there who think the same way. Been lurking around for awhile and thought it was finally time to join and introduce myself. Kinda new to all this stuff. I never really thought much about it before but over the last year or two I realized just how "fragile" our society is so now I'm trying to learn all I can and prepare for my family. I've already learned quite a bit just reading through many of the posts on this site. Hopefully I can learn a lot more before it is needed! Anyway, just wanted to say "Howdy".

OK, well I never served in the military, which is something I deeply regret now that I am older and wiser. That whole hindsight thing. I'm a self-employed auto mechanic here in MI (read, unemployed and working out of my garage at home). My family is the most important thing in the world which is why I'm trying to get prepared for, what I feel, is the inevitable. I would consider myself more libertarian then anything else. I think the government should stay out of our lives as much as possible and the current state of our once great country scares the hell out of me! I'm not nearly prepared enough right now but am doing the best I can to get caught up from a lifetime of ignorance. I have a pretty good start on the food front (still nowhere close to ready, if there is such a thing) but most everything else is still lacking. I'm currently trying to figure out what weapons to get. It was going to wait awhile due to funding but with the "rumors" floating around about the impending gun control tactics this administration is trying to implement, I figured it should become a priority. Any suggestions are welcome. From what I've read, I need a shotgun, a .22, some kind of hunting rifle, and ?. Anyway, that about sums things up. Thanks for all the welcomes and for all the great info and I'll just apologize in advance for all the stupid "noob" questions you'll probably get from me.
