Hey everybody. I'm glad to be here, my family is new to survivalism but not new to libertarianism and freedom. I humbly ask for assistance in making preparations. Is there a good thread for beginners on here?

Welcome from the foothills in Western Lincoln County:cool:
The biggie is to have a 3 day supply of food/water/supplies for each family member. Then work on a week, a month, 3 months, a year, etc...
Look at what the great folks have already talked about on here and form a plan.
A good resource to learn from is Survival Blog www.survivalblog.com and another one to learn a bunch of things about prepping is http://www.theplacewithnoname.com/bl...ons/index.html Shanes Blog about the lessons he learned from Katrina. Alot of these lessons he learned will apply to ANY situation.
Of course we will be happy to help you as well...
BTW love Razzoo's @ Concord Mills, but don't like the traffic!!!73
later,
ZA
Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.
The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

I actually spent time waiting tables at the Red Lobster across the street there. The easiest way to avoid the traffic is stay away during race week and the weekend afternoons. Any other times it's deserted."Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. Welcome Bob,
It's always great to meet new members. Please ask any questions which you may have. The true beauty of new members are the "basic" questions they ask which cause everyone to keep thinking and talking about all topics.ENJOY AND STAY SAFE
TEOTWAWKI happens to all of us everyday. Always be prepared!

Yes, welcome. I don't think there is a beginning section per se. The blogs mentioned are good but overwhelming with content. I would suggest the key is to have somewhere to go in the event of an emergency...strike that, have three places to go. That location needs access to food, water and shelter for your entire family for as long as you can afford to prepare.
The next step is to communicate with your family. Make certain everyone has a place, responsibilities and understands the plan. Then practice the plan including actually doing the steps instead of just talking about them. The distance between saving your family and 'really trying' may be in the snags you discover through testing.
I'll give you an example. My family is meant to meet at a city botanical garden (we all work outside the house) then go together to our bug out location. The last time there was a tornado sighted in our area that we were out of the house for we all met at the gardens only to discover that they had shut down for the weather and locked the huge metal gates. Plan was revised!
So Xcolony is here, THANKS Diesel, for the purpose of letting everyone test and share each others plans and ideas. Together we represent the 1% of America that considers it worth the time, expense and mental willpower to prepare to save our families in the event of an emergency. EVERY member brings something new to the table so please ask your questions and get excited because you are in for an exciting time in emergency preparedness.
You couldn't have found a better place to begin your journey!
Again welcome!

Howdy, Slim_Bob!
I am a fellow Survivalist and fellow advocate of freedom (albeit, I am not an official member of the Libertarian Party) from Gastonia, NC.
The Rule of Threes is an excellent place to start on your adventure in Survivalism. This rule has it that a man can live...
30 days without food...
3 days without water...
3 hours without shelter...
3 minutes without Oxygen...
but less than 3 seconds without rational thought.
From this rule, setting priorities for survival are easy. An addendum to the Rule of Threes is to always have (or know how to access or make) at least:
three sources of shelter in three different places,
three sources of fire,
three sources of water and food,
three sources for tools, weapons, and implements,
three sources of First-Aid and medicine,
three means of communication with the outside world, and
when in civilization, have at least three sources of income.
This forms a good foundation from which to start and all other details are means to these ends. I hope this is helpful."Apocalypse is by no means inevitable." --Jim Rice.

Don't forget. Less then 3 seconds without a woman telling you the correct way to do something.

Love the quote about liberty, not the first time I've heard it but it is so true.:D"Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency.
