  • New England Gal Joining In

Greetings from a very hot and humid New England (94-degrees...yikes!).

Lakota Hecate just saying hello, and looking forward to reading some helpful insight/advice.

My area of "expertise" is animal husbandry, domesticated animals mostly, but I know my fair share about the ones you're "supposed" to have a permit for. Dogs are a particular specialty of mine- every dog is a working dog!

This year's adventure has been coop building with readily available supplies/scraps, and low-tech/cheap (no pun intended) chick/chicken care.

I look forward to lurking, logging, and learning!:)

    Welcome.... my fellow New Englander!

Nice to have another in the region.... We're way out numbered by all the Texan and Carolina's crew.

You think you're outnumbered??? Try being from Arizona!:)

Welcome to the forum. We are about to start with laying hens, so it will be great to hear what you have to say. We also have two dogs, Scotties, who are great at keeping the mice and snake population down, but I worry about them with my future chickens. However, they will be "meeting" a rooster this weekend that I hope will teach them not to pick on the ladies. lol

Scotties are great little dogs! I always think of Fala when I see them. We have had run-ins with dog vs chicken as we have 4 dogs...120 pound Malamute ate a chick, Husky has wanted to "baby" them... As Frost said "Good fences make good neighbors" (big coop, long run, free range when dogs in), and all is well. We don't keep roosters as we only want eggs, as roosters are some TOUGH old birds!
