I hope this is the proper place for this. I am a retired teacher and have been interested in survival skills since the Gulf War. Love to vegetable garden and can what I grow. Not sure how much knowledge I have to offer. Everyone probably knows it, but the Dollar Store is a great place to buy Treat for storage and personal items like soap and toothpaste. Thanks for the welcome.

dehydrating food
I bought an inexpensive dehydrator and had little success. I did dry some figs using screens stacked together but when I read that most dried foods last only a short time or need to go in the freezer, I just decided to stick with canning. I am sure others know a great deal more about dehydration but like I said, I couldn't see drying something only to have to freeze it. Good luck on your garden. Will post some pictures of mine when it gets planted in May. I also have a rain collection system using rain from the gutters that we are pumping to the garden to soaker hoses and when they go down for the summer I will post some pictures.Comment
