I'm not quite sure why is this bothering me so much. Perhaps it's because it happened in conjunction with some other things in my personal life, I don't know, but at any rate I'm going to set the record straight. As many of you know, Bug_out and I got into a discussion on the AR-15 platform in the weapons section of this forum. We disagreed on pretty much everything. It's ok to disagree with someone but when pride gets involved we end up saying some stupid things.
I made the statement that I made a 1.5 inch grouping at a 1000 yards with a .223 Colt M-16. That's 10 football fields. If you have any doubt as to how far that is, stand at the goal post and look at the one at the other end of the field and then multiply that by 10. Point in fact, it didn't happen. I have been through basic training twice. Once in the Air Force and once in the Army. I qualified expert marksman everytime I shot. I remember the Drill Sergeants in both making statements about my marksmanship but there were no such groups at a thousand yards. I remember making some tight groups, but maybe it was at 300 yds, maybe 100, maybe 50, I really don't remember.
The point is, I got caught up in the heat of the discussion and I typed the first distance that came into my head and I got called on it and rightly so. Then as foolish pride often dictates, I stuck to my guns (no pun intended) instead of admitting my error. That is not the reputation that I want here. The next time I get into a heated discussion maybe I can think a little harder before I type and maybe get the best of my pride before it gets the best of me. So, I apologize if I have misled anyone, I can assure you that it wasn't intentional. I will try to be more dependable with my info and war stories in the future.
