  • Keeping important paper close, and safe in BOB situation

I was thinking of ways I can improve the way I store my important papers, in case of emergency situations. Sure, some people keep them in fireproof safes etc.. and Im wondering what some other ideas are for storage and quick locating?
I made a small binder, with all our SS cards, birth certificates, bank info, shot records, lease info, important phone numbers, passwords, Visa, DD214, marriage certificates, and such. I want to add contact maps, and try to keep some cash in this binder. I keep this close to my pack (BOB) and can grab it in a matter of seconds. Anyone else have some helpful tips, or ideas? Oh, I also keep a few family pics as well. I would like to eventually keep a separate pack with family heirlooms, and baby books, BUT that isnt the most important stuff (though close :) when your talking about survival. I like to think a few baby pics and special momentos can fit in the binder as well..

I have copies made of all my important documents, the originals I have in Ziploc bags, in a waterproof box that I keep on the safe. The copies are just for emergency backups and usually aren't valid but in a shtf situation any id is better than no id.

yep, make copies of everything and keep a few of these packets around in multiple secure safe spots. Also don't forget insurance info for cars, house, and life as well as will and testament. Also any prescriptions and your CWP's come to mind.

Don't forget to review and update say every 6 months or if you change anything like insurance companies.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you!

We took the time to borrow a dual sided drum scanner...

          this was inclusive of passports...birth certificates....drivers licenses...photo albums...insurance policies...etc

All you do is feed it and it will write to a thumb drive....both sides...high res....

We did our household....my father and mothers....brothers and sis in laws...and 3 other families from our group....

then dispersed them as necessary to divide and secure.

PITA....but if you need it...it's there...

Good ideas.. thanks... I guess the "housewife/mom", in me makes me really paranoid about having all of these especially handy in a SHTF situation..

Laminating is a wonderful idea. There are water proof bags that are not real expensive that you can store your families documents in...I would make sure you put stuff in your kids bags as well...names, address, other relatives...after seeing the little babies after katrina that was seperated from their moms I alwasy thought an imprinted dog tag pinned to them might be the way to go.

                  Allergy alerts

Blood types for yourself and family

                  Health problems...mental and physical

Our group has filled out medical forms for the nurse....all these are stored in a safe place...and have who can give blood to who.....meds.....special needs and such.

Everyong should have these on hand where family members can have it for emergencies.

I like your idea for the dog tag. Could put their name and contact info on one and any med issues or blood type on another. Also cheap enough to make several sets to put in their BOB, sew a set in their jacket, lace a set in their shoe strings, etc

I like the dog tag idea. My kids are probably too small for there own B.O.B. so dog tags would be a good way for someone to contact me if we get separated some how and they are found.

North Face (Sprout) makes a very small kids "pack". My daughter is 3 and she uses it when we hike. She usually keeps her rock collection in it. It teaches her about carrying a pack, as well as responsibility. She loves wearing it! If need to, it can hold a bottle of water, a few snacks and some coloring stuff!
