Eons ago, back in the days that mankind did not yet have the wheel (or fire) and I was a young, pre-pub-esent-man-child, I was plagued by nightmares. They were not JUST the confused dreams of a boy undergoing a tidalwave of hormones, they were political dreams, which at the time I understood even less then the dreams I had about girls.
I had 2 dreams that repeated themselves leaving me limp with sweat, and not the good kind of limp either.
In one dream my family was litteraly buried in wealth (a solid gold cadilaic that turned into a landslide of killing sheet metal).
In a second dream I was a WW2 GI in a bombed-out city protecting the American President and his family from Nazie Storm Troopers, which no matter how many times I shot them, would continue thier assualt. These dreams occured in the late 1950's so mass media was not the geniseses of my dreams.
As a teenager I experienced a few incidences where I had a waking dream of banal events in the near (a few minutes foward) future. I was old enough then to know to keep my mouth shut.
As an adult I have had a difficult time remembering most of my dreams as I have supressed them, reduced them to black and white phantoms that disappear with the morning sun.
I'm still loath to ascribe any special meaning to these dreams, even though they repeated themselves often and in terrible detail; yet my life has followed a path that might be laid at the feet of those dreams.
Last night I had an extremely vivid dream, perhaps the first dream that intruded into my waking life in 40 years.
In last night's dream my property; artwork that was a family heirloom and dear to me, was stolen from a museum by a band of organized criminals, Criminal Immigrants. When I reported the crime I was told that I should 'forget it' as persuing the criminals was beyond the power of the Sheriff, State Police, Courts, Senators, Congressmen and even the Federal Govt. I persisted in finding my property, was captured, tortured and murdered. My head was left in the center of a main road, a warning to other citizens not to interfere with the criminal takeover of thier country.
I am very disturbed by this dream and I would like to make it disappear but it lingers still.
