I just finished "Life As We Knew It"
This is a 10 outa 10 in my book!
This PAW story revolves around a single mom family in semi-rural PA as told by the 16YO daughter, the book is very serious but rated 'G' it is about a family's response to the unthinkable, for once, no violence.
Lots of excelent last minute and PAW shopping info embeded in the text.

I liked it too. She also has one set in NYC revolving around the same event called "The Dead and the Gone."

I saw the blurb on TDATG in the back of LAWKI, sounds interesting but is not on my reading list. If I lived in a city it certainly would be!
I just finished reading 'World War Z' it is a 'retrospective on the Zombie Wars that killed-off several billion humans' and ruined the planet for decades. Writen by Max Brooks (son of Mel Brooks), it is a very dark piece of fiction with no rainbows or sunsets. I prefered Life As We Knew It. I'm pretty much Zombied-out and need an infusion of kittens and unicorns for my next read.

In light of recent interest and requests for summer reading ideas I’ve gathered the following information. I apologize for any errors in spelling names and such. Please add links to any others you think people would enjoy.

Avalon – by LMichael Rusin [email protected] mention you are a member of a survival forum (he’s a forum member too) and get the ebook for only $10. A great read! Lots of information. An attack on America starts with small nukes in major cities and it follows the ensuing breakdown of society. The group the book follows is in northern CA. Good info on using materials that are found, working in a group and building a self sustaining group.

A good read about an EMP event and the residents of a Texas suburb. It covers not only the EMP effects (which are minimalized) and focuses on the breakdown of society and the building of a network of communities to survive. Lots of detailed info on survival strategies like gardening, water etc.

A good book by Survivorblog owner (http://survivalblog.com/) Rawles. It follows an economic crash and it’s resulting breakdown of society, with a band of Christian survivors. The group in in Utah. The group has been preparing for something to happen for years, and have a well oiled plan. Lots of good info on stocking up, weapons and surveillance techniques.

An EMP scenario taking place in North Carolina. It follows the event and the year that follows through the eyes of a man who lives in a small town and is a war history teacher. Lots of very good and scary info about the steps that will occur in such an event, with an eventual 90% die-off of the population.

A hilarious look at one mans journey to become a survivalist. While funny, it does contain some very good ideas, especially for a beginner or “city slicker”.

I just received these books from amazon:

World War Z - I read it in two nights. The things I took away from it is no matter how prepared you are you really have to be able to addapt to changing sittuations and that govenments at some point would have to would cut and run leaving many to fend for themselves, Also if you substitute the flu or other Bio attack with a high kill ratio for the zombies it would be pretty close to what would happen.

Storey's guide to raising chickens- One of the best books on raising chickens I have read, I would recomend this to any one thinking of chickens.
Storey's guide to raising meat goats.
Storey's guide to raising milking goats.
Turn of the century farm tools and impliments.
Dictionary of american hand tools. being a blacksmith I like having prints on hand of how old tools were made and used.
Photovoltaics design and installation.
The good thing is that with all the books I have I could heat my house with them or have a life time supply of TP:eek:

I finished "Lights Out" last week and just got done with "Patriots" I am starting on "Alas Babylon" . Haven't had the chance to get "One Second After" yet but will get it soon and it will be my next read.
