  • Lost my Job

I got terminated from my position as an armored courier today, May 15th. The termination was due to a vehicle accident which was not severe enough to result in the loss of my job.

I was cited with following too close to the vehicle in front of me, which resulted in a minor collision, causing that vehicle to crash into the one in front of her, chain reacting her into the car ahead. There was only a minor injury and only one vehicle towed. The following is our company guideline of crash severity:

1st Degree: Major preventable crash where personal injuries, rollover, death, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, towing of any vehicle, driving a CMV without a proper license, leaving the scene of a crash or being convicted of any violation listed in the FMCSR subpart D, 383.51 (which I have no clue of what it contains) or where deliberate or reckless disregard of safety is found. Involvement in two backing crashes within 12 months, failure to cooperate in a crash investigation, and/or three preventable crashes within 12 months. 12 points and termination.

2nd Degree: Preventable crash with major injuries (Treatment requiring hospitalization), excessive speed, major damages, tow of any vehicle, failure to yield, following too close, improper lane change, rollover, driving too fast for conditions, disregard of a traffic control device, rear end collision, driver cited or any backing crash occurring without a backing guide. Eight points and driver training.

3rd Degree: Preventable crash with minor injuries (First Aid treatment only), any vehicles towed, major damages to vehicles involved, roll back or rear end collision after stopping, sideswiping vehicle or fixed object, improper lane change, disregard of a traffic control device, or driver cited. Six points and driver training.

4th Degree: Minor property or vehicular damages, mirror strikes, light scratches less than 12 inches long, small dents, roll back or rear end collision after stopping, sideswiping vehicles or fixed object, or driver cited. Four points and driver training.

5th Degree: No driver citation received, involves minor cosmetic damages. Two points and may be require to attend driver training.

So, I probably won't be on here much anymore. I've got some preps for sustainability, however, if I can't pay my rent, they don't really matter. I have my BOB and BOV in case I have to leave. Just wanted everyone to know.

Ah, Jesus. So sorry to hear this.

Suspect all employers are looking for ANY reason to let someone go, we should all probably be very careful right now.

Do I recall correctly, you are from SC?

                        Ditto - me as well

Got my slip on April 3rd. So since that episode sure didn't make me feel any where near 'secure', I have done the steps i need to make sure I am not so vulnerable again, in case I cannot find another job this year or next. Upward and Onward.

                            Visinedrops, OneBadPig, and HileTroy,

So sorry to hear about everyone's loss of work. I fully understand if you all have to make looking for work your new full-time job.

One thing I did once when my retail job cut back my hours was to offer my services as a handy man both to my landlord and to a friend of my Mom's.

I did anything peaceful and honest that didn't involve risk to life and limb, including vacuuming and cleaning vacant apartment units, spackling nail holes and painting walls, putting in an air conditioner for a tenant, cleaning out junk from basements and garages, piling up brush and limbs...

As the old Tennessee Tuxedo theme song put it: "...anything so he can measure up to men."

                            [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4uunAcNN0Q[/ame]

By pricing my work just below what others would charge, but not too low to meet expenses, I stayed in demand for quite a while until I could find a full-time job with another retail store.

Visinedrops, if you think your job is worth it, you may want to look further into appealing your firing with the company if your accident didn't rise to the level of termination. Go all the way up the corporate hierarchy and politely but firmly press the issue.

Best of luck to all of you in these "interesting" financial times.
